Our Vice President, Grammy award-winning pianist Christopher Glynn, will accompany internationally renowned soprano Rowan Pierce. They will be joined by our very own Julia White, an oboist who visits hospitals and care homes with Music in Hospitals & Care. They will perform a range of pieces across the centuries to celebrate our work and the power of music to touch people's lives.

A big thank you to Bob Gessey from Music in Hospitals and Care who visited to entertain our patients on Coton Ward this afternoon. Music is a big part in helping deconditioning by getting patients engaged and active while staying in hospital. We look forward to welcoming Bob back each month to keep our patients, and staff, dancing on the wards. Music in Hospitals & Care

Our Music Jam initiative is due to be rolled out to hospitals across the UK after demonstrating for more than a decade the positive impact it has on the mental health and wellbeing of patients in Edinburgh 🥁🪇

Following the long-term success of The Hive space at Royal Edinburgh mental health hospital, we have already begun expanding this approach to three hospitals across Glasgow, with musicians from the North of England shadowing the sessions as part of plans to bring them to Newcastle and then further afield.

Online event - Between the Notes: Capturing the creative impact of music in healthcare settings

We're hosting this free interactive session as part of the Healing Arts Birmingham programme from the Jameel Arts & Health Lab in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Explore the challenges in evaluating the impact of our music for diverse populations including babies and parents in neonatal settings, patients in ICU, young people in an inpatient CAHMS unit and care home residents living with dementia. Attendees will come away with some of the tools we’ve created and a better understanding of how to explore the impact of the arts in health.

“We see first-hand how the music brings the group together and how people who are often quiet or non-verbal begin to move and engage with others around them. The smallest sway or foot movement to the rhythm shows us that those who perhaps show no other reaction in their face are actually responding to what they hear.
