“Now then! Don’t stand grinnin’ there, can’t yer see there’s a customer waitin’?”

This wonderful cover for 'The Barman' captures the humour and atmosphere of the music hall perfectly - and it also inspires the theme for our 3rd conference in November 2026:

*CATERING for People’s Desires and Needs in the Music Hall*

On Mother Kelly's Doorstep by George A. Stevens is a music hall and variety favourite. First performed by Fred Barnes, and also a hit for Randolph Sutton, it's perhaps best recognised as the theme song of Danny La Rue.

The fabulous songsheet is a beautiful, nostalgic depiction of a lost childhood that perfectly tells the story of the song.

The song has been performed and recorded by many stars of stage and screen over the years, including Dorothy Squires, Barbara Windsor, the cast of Eastenders and the Chelsea Football team. Have we forgotten anyone? Let us know in the comments.
