The Sierra Leone Foundation Centre (SLFC) is non-profit and non-governmental knowledge-base initiative that seeks to advance the knowledge and visibility of Sierra Leone Foundations worldwide and better document their benefits to communities across Sierra Leone by providing up-to-the-minute data acquired through research and collaborative projects. Background
In spite of recent developments (econo
mic, socio-demographic) in Sierra Leone, the country still faces numerous challenges to cater for its growing population, especially the youth, whose future will be determined by the decisions Sierra Leoneans both in the Diaspora and Sierra Leone are making today. The need to give back and contribute towards developing a better Sierra Leone is evidential in the continued and dynamic growth of the number of foundations Sierra Leoneans and non-Sierra Leoneans worldwide are engaged in. However, their effort to help build Mama Salone is too often hampered by lack of comprehensive planning, lack of knowledge about how the Sierra Leone NGO system works, the general perception of humanitarian projects in Sierra Leone, lack of detail and relevant information about their target groups, and physical absence on the field. It is within this context that the Sierra Leone Foundation Centre (SLFC) was founded to advance the knowledge and visibility of Sierra Leone Foundations worldwide and better document their benefits to communities across Sierra Leone by providing up-to-the-minute data. With the help of collaborative projects, the SLFC will enhance the effort of non-government and non-profit organizations through relevant information sharing about past, existing and future projects.
