Thank you to in where our volunteers collected all this surplus items from 😊♥️ We have built such a strong relationship with this store and we are very grateful to staff there for this collaboration. We ♥️ you! We pick up the surplus food items from them. This is different to the charity items that customers place at the front of the stores for charities to pick up. Our collections from this store vary from 1 to 3 times a week depending on their surplus. And thank you as always to our volunteers!! Who make this all possible.

Unlike massive national delivery services, Kentish Town Vegbox is a community-led industrial and provident society (IPS) ran by it's membership. They prioritize sustainability over rapid scaling for a few reasons:

​Farmer Fairness: They aim to ensure farmers receive a higher percentage of the "veg box pound" (roughly 60%, compared to the ~10% standard at supermarkets).

​Local Logistics: Because they rely on neighborhood collection points rather than a fleet of delivery vans, their "customer base" is naturally limited to those within walking or cycling distance of their 16+ drop-off locations. They partner locally with for their bicycle deliveries - You can also pay an extra premium for home deliveries.

​Low Waste: They operate on a pre-order model to ensure that very little organic produce goes to waste each week.

Waste prevention done really well at in partnership with ❤️ Instead of throwing these items they put them aside in bags which ensures they are not contaminated for community partners like us to collect them.
The dream would be a sliding scale funded model for community partners to do this work. We rely entirely on raising funds for our operations.

In London we need more ways for the social economy to be accessible to all. When you get to start this at such a young age 🌱 it nurtures an understanding of resources and how to respect them ❤️‍🩹 Thank you to the mom for sending me this happy video telling us how much their child is loving their new to them scooter 🛴

Christmas Eve also known in the surplus food industry as 'The Big Waste' is our busiest day ❤️ at our centre in Somers Town. Thanks to 22 (!!) Local residents and volunteers we were able to collect and redistribute so much food of which great quality vegetables and fruits to 5 local hostels, 1 faith group, our surplus food cart outside and our homes inside the centre 😍 We couldn't have done this without you and the collaboration of the stores 😍 So thank you , Camden and Archway stores, Little Waitrose inside King's Cross Station and .uk and the as well as for letting us make arrangements directly with the stores that use their platform to make sure the mostest food could be redistributed. And well done to all the stores as this year we saw the lowest amount of waste! ❤️ This is an incredible achievement! We've been doing this for 4 years now and this year we saw the least amount of Christmas type food products go to waste and bakery (!!!) Incredible achievement. We are off till the 4th of January now, we have our accounts to do and the planning for the opening of our waste cafe ❤️ Thank you so much to our team and our volunteers, you are incredible - everyday we get up and we have faith that we an create a better city, a better neighbourhood, a more resilient community, community cohesion, community support - We aren't waiting around for others to make it better, we are making it better, every single one of us. So, so proud of everyone ❤️ Thank you for dreaming alongside us. And a happy, happy break and a blessed New Year 2025!

We are hiring a creative cook and community educator at Lifeafterhummus Community Benefit Society. See our website for full job specs: www.lifeafterhummus.com
Pre-pandemic we taught 40-60 people at a time in our hands-on cooking classes. This will be for up to 10 people per session as well as preparing food for our innovative waste cafe at the local library that will offer affordable food, a weekly
free meal as well as activities centred on sustainability. The cafe will be staffed by young people from Youth Justice, work experience for local young people and those with SEND upto age of 25. This is an exciting position for a person who is passionate about
community, reducing waste, nutrition and sustainability.
