Lifeafterhummus Community Benefit Society is a BME-Led VCS providing a Covid-19 community response in the St Pancras and Somers Town, King's Cross and Regent's Park wards with the help of 50 local volunteers. *Cooking classes will return when appropriate

All these boxes of washing machine capsules from Aldi UK were damaged and our social supermarket members were more than happy to take a box home each today 🤩 Like why not. This was destined for the bins and the store thought let's see if our community collectors want to collect it or not. This is good type of waste prevention rather than receiving items that genuinely could have been discounted rather than coming to us. Thanks to Leo and Harriet for collecting this as part of their pick ups today and to everyone else who helped out today with collections, redistribution and organising at the centre: Other Leo, Obi, Fatima & Mia, Nasrin, Melanie, Andy and Nadiyah! Community joint effort ❤️

Join us every Friday & Saturday in June at 5 Pancras Square Library & Community Cafe for our brand new Sewing Club 🧵
🕐 1PM–3PM
📍 Ground floor, next to the Community Cafe
💸 FREE & drop-in
We’re creating a relaxed and welcoming space for anyone who loves sewing, mending, upcycling or just wants to try something creative and meet new people.
🪡 FRIDAYS - Social Sewing Sessions
Bring your own projects or clothes to work on in a relaxed, supportive environment. No formal lessons - just sharing skills, chatting, sewing together and learning from each other. Sewing machines and some materials provided.
♻️ SATURDAYS - Guided Upcycling & Mending
Led by a sewing facilitator, these sessions focus on repairing, altering and refreshing clothes while learning new techniques along the way.
✨ One special change for 19th June: on one of the Fridays we’ll be taking a group trip to visit a fashion parade from Central Saint Martins to Chalton Street. On this day there won’t be a sewing machine session - instead we’ll be celebrating local creativity and fashion together. More details coming soon!
Beginners, experienced sewists, and curious creatives all welcome 💚

Thank you to in where our volunteers collected all this surplus items from 😊♥️ We have built such a strong relationship with this store and we are very grateful to staff there for this collaboration. We ♥️ you! We pick up the surplus food items from them. This is different to the charity items that customers place at the front of the stores for charities to pick up. Our collections from this store vary from 1 to 3 times a week depending on their surplus. And thank you as always to our volunteers!! Who make this all possible.

Thanks to for brokering the relationship and providing all the customer service behind this relationship. Unlike massive national delivery services, Kentish Town Vegbox is a community-led industrial and provident society (IPS) ran by it's membership. They prioritize sustainability over rapid scaling for a few reasons:

Farmer Fairness: They aim to ensure farmers receive a higher percentage of the "veg box pound" (roughly 60%, compared to the ~10% standard at supermarkets).

Local Logistics: Because they rely on neighborhood collection points rather than a fleet of delivery vans, their "customer base" is naturally limited to those within walking or cycling distance of their 16+ drop-off locations. They partner locally with for their bicycle deliveries - You can also pay an extra premium for home deliveries.

Low Waste: They operate on a pre-order model to ensure that very little organic produce goes to waste each week.

Collective purchasing and is one way to tackle affordable access to food

Waste prevention done really well at in partnership with ❤️ Instead of throwing these items they put them aside in bags which ensures they are not contaminated for community partners like us to collect them.
The dream would be a sliding scale funded model for community partners to do this work. We rely entirely on raising funds for our operations.

Thank you to our longtime volunteer Rodney for doing the collections on this very quiet bank holiday good Friday 🙂 and to and to normally we would have also picked up from but .app got there before us. This is waste prevention done good ❤️ when businesses work with community to reduce waste and keep it local 🙂
