Ambitious about Autism

Ambitious about Autism We stand with autistic children and young people to campaign for change and create opportunities. Ambitious about Autism was founded as TreeHouse in 1997.

It was founded as a specialist school for children with autism, with five pupils and based in a borrowed room in the Royal Free Hospital in North London. For the last 13 years, Ambitious about Autism has been growing and developing into the national charity that it is today, which provides services, raises awareness and influences policy. We moved to Muswell Hill, north London, in 2004, and moved

into our purpose designed building - the Pears National Centre for Autism Education - in October 2008.

This is Arden’s story.

They were bullied throughout primary school.

They wish their teacher had understood autism and bullying and wish their classmates had been told to stop.

They have written their absence note to make their voice heard.

Following the publication of the Schools White Paper, we are calling on the government to seize the moment and create an education system that’s inclusive for all.

Most online safety advice for children offers a 'one size fits all' approach. But no two children are the same.

For those with additional needs, they may experience online spaces more intensely, misread social cues or struggle with regulating their emotions.

As parents, it can be difficult to know how best to support them.

Internet Matters has launched Every Child Safe Online, to offer practical resources and advice for parents and carers to help their child have positive and safe online experiences.

This is Jacob’s story.

The overwhelming sensory environment at school stopped him from learning. Jacob was misunderstood and at times felt bullied by staff. His autism, ADHD and learning difficulties went undiagnosed and unidentified at school.

He has written his absence note to make his voice heard.

Following the publication of the Schools White Paper, we are calling on the government to seize the moment and create an education system that’s inclusive for all.

Today is National Children’s Day, a day to highlight the importance of a healthy childhood.

This is Erin’s story.

For years, her autism went undiagnosed and she struggled with severe mental health problems. Her teachers did their best, but couldn’t understand why she was having such a hard time.

If Erin’s needs had been identified earlier, and she had received an autism diagnosis and the right support, she believes things could have been very different.

She has written her absence note to make her voice heard.

Following the publication of the Schools White Paper, we are calling on the government to seize the moment and create an education system that’s inclusive for all.
