Like so many families of children with deafblindness, twelve year old Nischal's parents felt confused and helpless, not knowing how to communicate with and support their son.
Things changed for the family when the Deafblind Association Nepal, our partner organisation, stepped in to help. A therapist visited the family to help assess Nischal's needs, provide sensory equipment, and develop an individual education and physiotherapy plan.
Nischal's transformation from an isolated child to a happy and engaged student has been remarkable; his parents now feel confident supporting him at home, and are overjoyed to see their son learning and connecting with the world around him.

We're celebrating !
Donating your time and energy to charity work is incredibly rewarding and a great opportunity to learn and grow - and there are so many ways to get involved! This week, we want to celebrate our wonderful trustees - a form of volunteering that is often overlooked, but is absolutely essential to ensuring charities can run and develop. Our trustee Sian Tesni, who has sat on Sense International's Board of Trustees since 2024, shared this .
"I was happy to dedicate time to Sense International’s work and to bring my expertise in programme work to this important organisation. I believe wholeheartedly in inclusion. The work that Sense International does in reaching the most marginalised to ensure that they have dignity and realise their rights is essential if we are to ensure inclusion for all citizens regardless of our circumstances or where we live. We cannot be satisfied with our version of inclusion until everyone is truly included – everyone belongs."

A passionate advocate for people with deafblindness like herself, Fatima once found it difficult to find accessible information about her rights as a person with disabilities. Through the Global Deafblindness Resource Hub, she was able to find information compatible with her screen reader, enabling her to independently access her rights. Through Sense International India's Udaan Internship programme, Fatima has been mentored to transform information into advocacy, and supported to attend forums where she is able present on disability rights in her own language and engage her peers in important discussions. An emerging disability leader, Fatima's journey to representing people with deafblindness in informed discussions shows the importance of digital accessibility in powering progress and sharing information accessibly.

celebrates and advocates for digital accessibility for the over one billion people around the world with disabilities. For people with deafblindness, it is often even more difficult to access digital platforms, which are rarely built to accommodate multi-sensory impairments - leaving people disconnected in an increasingly digital world. The Global Deafblindness Resource Hub helps to connect people with deafblindness like Martha with information on daily living activities, rights, and local support through an accessible platform - fostering independence, fulfilment, and connection.

For the London Marathon 2026, Keyur had a dream - not only to fundraise for Sense International, but to do so wearing traditional Indian dress, celebrating his heritage and breaking a world record by becoming the fastest person ever to run a marathon whilst doing so.
We are thrilled to share that Keyur achieved his goal and is now a world record holder, all whilst raising over £4,000 for our work! Congratulations Keyur and thank you so much for all your efforts.
Got a record-breaking marathon idea? Join Team Sense International in 2027 and tick one off your bucket list whilst helping to change the lives of children and adults with deafblindness around the world.
