This Prisons Week, we join together in prayer for everyone affected by imprisonment: people in prison, their families and friends, prison staff, and all whose lives have been impacted by crime.

As we reflect on this year’s theme of connection, we pray for freedom from fear and isolation, for healing and forgiveness, and for the strength to show mercy and justice to one another.

Mothers’ Union has proudly sponsored Prisons Week for 40 years. Join us in prayer as we remember all those affected by the criminal justice system. 🙏

As Prisons Week begins (11–17 October), we’re celebrating the work of Mothers’ Union members who support people in prison and their families.

For 40 years, Mothers’ Union has proudly sponsored Prisons Week, recognising the importance of prayer, connection and practical support for everyone affected by imprisonment.

Through their work in prisons, MU members help build relationships, offer encouragement and remind people that they are not forgotten.

What better way to celebrate 150 years of impact than by looking ahead to what's next?

We were delighted to join Mothers' Union in Westminster as they celebrated their incredible 150 year legacy and shared their vision for the future.

One of their key priorities for this anniversary year is to deepen their work on modern slavery and raise up a new network of anti-slavery ambassadors. Together, we are developing a programme that equips people to raise awareness, inspire action and help create communities where exploitation cannot thrive.

Our partnership with the Mothers’ Union is based on our shared Christian hope that drives us to show love to those on the edges of society.

Look at their shoes.

At a moving Deanery service in Holy Trinity Cleeve, shoes became a powerful symbol of the lives impacted by modern slavery. As poems telling victims' stories were read, pairs of shoes were placed on the altar, helping bring humanity and individuality to an issue that can often feel distant.

It's a reminder that awareness begins with seeing the person behind the statistic and learning to recognise the signs of exploitation.

Yoxmere Mothers’ Union in Suffolk have raised over £450 as part of their 150th Anniversary Challenge by wrapping 150 books and adding clues to each one. Members then sold them for £3 each, giving readers the chance to choose their next book without knowing exactly what they were getting!

A brilliant idea and a wonderful way to celebrate 150 years of Mothers’ Union in action.
