Our 150th Anniversary Annual Gathering brought members from across Britain & Ireland, alongside partners and guests from our worldwide Mothers' Union family, together for a day of worship, reflection and inspiration.

From looking back on our rich history to celebrating the impact of our work today and looking ahead to the future, it was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect, share stories and renew our commitment to serving families and communities through faith in action.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to make this milestone celebration so special. 💙

The Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, the Rt Revd Anthony Poggo, has written a message of commendation for the work of Mothers' Union as they mark their 150th Anniversary. The message was shared for the service of celebration at St Paul's Cathedral on June 10th.

The Secretary General deeply respects the work of Mothers' Union and is pictured here, with a member of Mothers' Union during a visit to the Kamarich Empowerment Tea Factory, in Kaboi, in the Anglican Diocese of Kapsabet, in 2025.

'It is a great pleasure to offer my warm congratulations as you mark the 150th anniversary of The Mothers' Union (MU), whose remarkable work has made a lasting difference to communities across the Anglican Communion and around the world.

For 150 years, you have responded with compassion and determination to the needs of families and communities across diverse contexts. Over that time, your work has grown into a truly global movement, rooted in partnership, mutual learning, and a shared commitment to human dignity and justice.

Across the Anglican Communion, your presence is widely recognised and deeply valued. By working alongside local churches and communities in more than 80 countries, you have demonstrated the strength of collaboration grounded in faith, respect, and long-term relationship. This approach reflects the very best of our Communion life: connected across cultures, attentive to local realities, and united in service. I have witnessed the work and impact of the Mothers’ Union first-hand in my travel across the Anglican Communion. This was also the case when I was a Diocesan Bishop in South Sudan.

This anniversary offers an opportunity to give thanks for all who have contributed to this work over many generations, for members whose dedication and generosity have sustained and shaped the MU's mission, providing Christian care for families. Your commitment is a powerful witness to faith lived out through action and sets a great example for us all.

As you celebrate this significant milestone, it is my prayer that the MU will continue to grow and thrive in the years ahead, deepening its impact, strengthening its partnerships, and responding with wisdom and compassion to the changing needs of the communities you serve. May you be sustained by hope, guided by faith, and encouraged by all that has been achieved, as you continue this vital work for generations to come.'

What began in 1876 with the vision of our founder, Mary Sumner, has grown into a global movement of over 4 million members across 84 countries, united by a shared commitment to faith in action and transforming lives. From supporting mothers in a Hampshire parish to advocating for stronger families and communities around the world, our history is one of courage, compassion and lasting impact.

As we reflect on the journey that has brought us here 150 years later, we also look ahead with hope, continuing to respond to the needs of our communities through prayer, advocacy and practical action.

We look forward to celebrating this remarkable legacy together at St Paul's Cathedral this evening and giving thanks for the generations of members whose faith and service continue to inspire us.

What a fantastic milestone! 🚴

Today marked the penultimate leg of Deb and Geoff's incredible 150th anniversary cycling challenge, as they continue their journey from York Minster to St Paul's Cathedral in celebration of 150 years of Mothers' Union.

They were joined for today's ride by our CEO, Bev Jullien, who was delighted to get in the saddle and cycle alongside them for part of the journey!

A huge thank you to Deb and Geoff for their dedication, determination and support as they inspire others while raising awareness of Mothers' Union's work. We can't wait to cheer them on as they complete their final stage tomorrow and arrive in London!
