💭 MYTH 7: 'Care homes are overpriced.'

As part of , we're tackling one of the biggest areas of confusion when it comes to care: fees.

There's no denying that care is a significant financial decision. It can feel daunting, especially when families are trying to understand what is included and how to compare options.

But care home fees usually cover far more than accommodation.

In this video, our Family Liaison Manager Nicki explains what is typically included, from 24/7 care and support to meals, activities, wellbeing, housekeeping, laundry, utilities, and the running of a safe, comfortable home.

Non-profit providers like us reinvest income back into care, residents' wellbeing, our homes and our people, rather than paying dividends to shareholders.

💭 MYTH 6: 'Residents stay inside and have to give up their normal lives.'

Through , we're helping people understand that moving into care does not mean stepping away from the world.

Many people imagine care homes as places where life becomes smaller or more disconnected. The reality can be very different.

At Greensleeves Care, strong community connections are part of everyday life. Residents welcome visitors, spend time with local groups, enjoy events and activities, and continue building relationships with the people and places around them.

Care should support people to stay connected, not cut them off. This short video from one of our homes in Lowestoft shows life that is far from dull, with community links woven into the rhythm of the home.

💭 MYTH 5: 'People get mistreated in care homes.'

As part of , we're addressing some of the fears that can make conversations about care feel difficult.

This is one of the most sensitive myths, and we understand why people worry.
Negative stories can stay with us. But they do not reflect the everyday reality of good care, delivered by compassionate, skilled teams who know residents as individuals.

At Henley House, Bob and Roy's experience couldn't be more different.

The two gents have become great friends who spend their days enjoying activities, meeting visitors from the local community, playing pool and sharing plenty of laughs together.

For Bob, moving to Henley House brought reassurance and support when he needed it most.
"I was very pleased to come in and not have to think about getting any food. The food here has always been wonderful."
Roy says it's the people who make the difference. "I've got plenty of help and the staff are super lovely."

Both speak warmly about the varied activities, regular visitors and the friendships they've built since moving in. As Bob puts it: "There's always something to do... and if we join in, that makes all the difference in the world."

Their experience reflects everyday life at Henley House: a place where residents are supported to stay active, connected and independent, while having the reassurance that help and support is always there when they need it.

💭 MYTH 4: 'Care homes are very clinical and hospital-like.'

Through , we want to help people see beyond outdated assumptions about care homes.

One common myth is that care homes feel clinical, impersonal or institutional.

In reality, care homes can be incredibly diverse.

🏡 Others are spacious, purpose-built homes designed for modern comfort, accessibility and 21st-century care.

Former Bioscientist Richard Eldon was chosen for his warm personality and love of talking with people. Richard proudly represented Buckler’s Lodge in the carnival procession alongside Senior Queen Nicky Bevan.

As part of our campaign, we're sharing real stories that show what life in a care home can really look like.

This myth is one we hear often: that care home life is passive, quiet or lacking stimulation.

But meaningful activity is a vital part of living well.

Meet Heather.

For Heather, one of the joys of care home life is the variety of activities on offer. From creative sessions and entertainment to exercise, celebrations, outings and opportunities to try something new, there's always something happening for those who want to get involved.

Everyone is different. Some people enjoy a busy social calendar, while others prefer quieter pastimes. What matters is choice, companionship and the chance to keep enjoying the things that make life feel like yours.

💭 MYTH 1: 'People only move into care when they're very poorly.'

As part of our campaign, we’re tackling some of the most common myths about care homes, because better information helps people make more confident decisions.

Many people assume care homes are only for those with significant health needs. The reality is often very different.

Carol chose to move into a care home not because she was seriously unwell, but because she wanted companionship, community and a little extra support with everyday life.

Her story reminds us that care is about much more than responding to illness. For many people, it's about reducing loneliness, feeling safer, maintaining independence, and enjoying life with the reassurance that support is there when needed.

We are proud to announce that we won two awards at the Sussex Day Awards yesterday. Grosvenor House Care Home and registered manager, Amanda Newport, both won awards for Services to Residential Care and Dementia Services.

They enjoyed a fantastic day observing Sussex Day which celebrates everything positive about the county at the East Sussex College Group Hastings Station Plaza Complex..
