The novel that was banned from Adelaide Writers’ Week and sparked international uproar meant, in a deeply ironic way, that Randa Abdel-Fattah’s book about censorship began to mirror her own life. Her urgent and compelling novel Discipline exposes, with sharp acuity, the complicity and moral decay within media and academia, and arrives in the UK this autumn, supported by an author tour.

Emerging from the Photo Kegham of Gaza project by Kegham Djeghalian Jr, the Family Photo Salons are intimate gatherings that begin with a simple gesture: sitting together around our family photographs and the stories they carry.

Bringing together a small group of Palestinian, mainly focusing on Gazan experiences, each salon aims to create a situated intimate space for conversation, where personal memories can become forms of shared and situated knowledge. We think together through photographs as images, but also as objects that have travelled, survived, been inherited, displaced, forgotten or held close.

Participants are invited to bring one or several family photographs - physical or digital - or simply to join the conversation. Photographs are shared, never collected.

Through these encounters, we reflect on family, memory, belonging and unbelonging, displacement, loss and survival, allowing fragmented memories and unfinished stories to remain open, while asking how our most intimate photographs might help us weave alternative personal and collective histories.

Join us at Palestine House for a relaxed evening of open mic and karaoke to close off our summer edition of Yafa Nights!

Whether you want to sing, share a poem, tell a story, perform something of your own or simply come along and enjoy the evening, the mic is open. Expect a mix of live contributions, karaoke favourites and plenty of space to get involved at your own pace.

Come with something prepared, decide on the night, or just grab a seat and support the people brave enough to take the mic.

Join us for an intimate evening of wellbeing to recover from the working day, followed by an optional tea and social! We will be focusing on:

Gentle stretches and somatic practices - to release tension and reconnect with the bodyBreathwork - deep breathing techniques to soften the body and release stress and overwhelm
Stillness with Sound - a short sound experience to allow the mind and body to be still and prepare for a restful night

We will end the evening with an optional tea/drink that can be purchased at the space and a community social to chat and connect.

No experience needed, just come as you are, and leave your stress and worries at the door!

Join us in welcoming back Sikander Rahman to Palestine House

Born and raised in New York City, yet perpetually drawn to the world, Sikander’s spirit navigates effortlessly between Karachi, Lahore, and Istanbul.

A Western classical violinist for over two decades, he performed and led ensembles at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center during his youth. His musical journey has since embraced the rich tapestry of Middle Eastern Maqam and Hindustani classical traditions, further deepened by mastery of the Afghan rabab and khayal vocal training under the esteemed Saami Brothers Qawwal. A true āshiq-e-jamāl—a lover of all that is beautiful—Sikander finds his muse in the Urdu language. His current inspirations include the legendary voices of Mehdi Hassan and Nayyara Noor, as well as Jaffer Zaidi of Kaavish.
