Charity It Association The Charity IT Association is a team of like-minded groups which have a passion for helping charities get the most from their IT.

CITA matches IT volunteers to charities with IT needs, empowering charities to harness the full potential of technology to achieve their own strategic missions. By talking to mid-sized charities about their experiences, we learned that they were typically under-resourced in all areas of IT, didn’t know who to ask or trust about their IT problems, and weren’t aware of the resources available to th

em in terms of IT expertise. We therefore set out to create a simple, easy-to-consume entry point for charities to engage with volunteers who were willing to help. Our vision is a world in which charities are able to harness the full potential of technology to increase their impact for good.

Volunteer Spotlight: Alistair Thompson! 🎉

Meet Alistair Thompson, a true champion of CITA’s mission to empower charities through technology! 💻🌟

Alistair has been volunteering for a variety of charities for nearly 15 years and been with CITA for 5 of those. In that time, he has completed a plethora of projects, including but not limited to:
🔹 Implementing customer relationship management (CRM) systems 📊
🔹 Migrating email services 📧
🔹 Advising on security and data protection 🔐

Despite his high-pressure senior role and evening fitness classes 🏋️‍♂️, Alistair finds time to support CITA and our Odyssey Mentoring Scheme, which pairs Military personnel with IT experts to gain real-world experience while supporting charities. Having lost a brother in Afghanistan and having other military links, the scheme is close to his heart.

✨ Alistair has mentored in every Odyssey scheme since it started, earning incredible feedback and inspiring others to become CITA volunteers! He also promotes the scheme tirelessly, attending every meeting to recruit mentors and guide new mentees.

For his dedication, passion, and impact, we’re thrilled to name Alistair our Volunteer of the Year 2024! 🙌
