With a 10-bedded inpatient unit, day therapy centre and outreach service, we aim to ensure all patients who face life limiting illnesses, their families and carers, receive the best possible care to enhance their quality of life, with the focus placed on providing relief from their symptoms. Patients may be admitted for symptom management, respite care, rehabilitation, or for care in the last days of their life and will be cared for by our fantastic team of doctors, nurses, chaplains, social workers, counsellors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, complementary and art therapists, housekeepers, volunteers and administration staff.

Sometimes, it's the little things that matter most. ❤️

When Mani came to Michael Sobell House, he was very unwell and spending much of his time in bed.

With the support of our team, he was able to get up, use a frame and wheelchair, and walk through to the coffee area to sit and have a cuppa with his son and daughter-in-law, all together with his wife watching on FaceTime, delighted to see him up and about.

For Mani and his family, it wasn't simply a trip to get a drink. It was a chance to sit together, share a cuppa and enjoy an ordinary family moment at a time when ordinary moments can mean so much.

This is what hospice care is about: understanding what matters to each person and helping make those moments possible, whatever they may look like.

This Hospice Care Week, we're celebrating the care that helps people find moments of joy, connection and togetherness.

Don't leave hospice care to chance.

Hospice care helps people live as well as possible alongside serious illness, while supporting their families and those close to them.
But hospice care across the country faces increasing financial pressure, with government funding varying between hospices.

That's why we're joining Hospice UK this Hospice Care Week to say: don't leave hospice care to chance.

✈️ They Did It!

A huge congratulations and thank you to Harry, Mandy & Sylvia, who bravely took to the skies this weekend and completed a tandem skydive in support of Michael Sobell House and Harlington Hospice.

Together, they have raised an incredible £2,316, helping us continue providing specialist care and support to local patients and their families when they need it most.

Taking that leap of faith from thousands of feet in the air is no small feat, and we're so grateful that they chose to do it for our hospice.

When people hear "trek across the Sahara Desert", they often assume it's for experienced adventurers, ultra-marathon runners, or people who spend every weekend climbing mountains.

The truth? Our trekkers come from all walks of life.

They're teachers, parents, retirees, office workers, friends fundraising together, and people looking to do something extraordinary for a cause close to their hearts.

You don't need to be the fastest or fittest person in the group. You just need determination, a sense of adventure, and a desire to make a difference.

🏅 100km. One incredible challenge. £1,200 raised.

Earlier this year, Dan and James took on an epic 100km Ultra Challenge in the Lake District, raising an incredible £1,200 for Michael Sobell House along the way.

For Dan, the challenge was inspired by the memory of his mum, who worked at Michael Sobell House for more than a decade before sadly passing away in December 2020.

"I know first hand how incredible the work they do is. My mum's passion for this work and the importance of it is why I wanted to take on this challenge."

Joining her every step of the way was his best friend of more than 30 years, James, whose own family experienced the care and compassion of Michael Sobell House when his mum received end of life care there.

Together, they tackled the miles, the climbs, and everything the Lake District could throw at them, all in support of local hospice care.

A huge thank you and congratulations to Dan and James on this amazing achievement. Your support helps us continue providing specialist care and support to patients and their loved ones when they need it most.

Our inpatient unit is open 24/7, and our kitchen team needs a reliable, hard-wearing toaster that can cope with being used around the clock.

Our chef Mike has identified a Dualit 4 Slice Lite Toaster as the right option for our kitchen. Unfortunately, it isn't available through Amazon, so we can't add it to our Wishlist.

✨Can you help make a special day possible for one of our patients tomorrow?✨

Tomorrow, one of our patients is travelling to London with her family to enjoy a Theatre show. While the Wish Ambulance team can transport her, they are unfortunately unable to take her recliner wheelchair.

We're looking for a volunteer who could:

✅ Collect the wheelchair from Michael Sobell House, Northwood (around 1pm)
✅ Deliver it to the Aldwych Theatre, London
✅ Collect it after our patient has been transferred back into the ambulance (from around 6pm onwards)
✅ Return it to Michael Sobell House

Wheelchair dimensions:
• 71cm wide
• 160cm long (fully reclined)

We know this is a big ask at short notice, but your help would make a very special day with loved ones possible for one of our patients.
