Liberty Speakers Toastmasters club in Norbury - come and develop public speaking confidence!

Our latest Liberty Speakers meeting took us into A Shadowy Autumn, with the Word of the Day, Harvest, giving us something to reflect on.

A harvest rarely happens overnight. It comes from what has been planted, nurtured and given time to grow. The same can be said for our confidence, communication and leadership.

Every speech delivered, every evaluation offered and every unexpected Table Topic is another opportunity to practise, learn and grow.

October is here, and we're kicking off the month with another Liberty Speakers online meeting!

One question. Four contestants. And no time to prepare.

At our Table Topics Speech Contest on Thursday, Tracy, Paulette, Susy and Adina were challenged with:

“What would you say about our planet to aliens visiting?” 👽🌍

From there, it was all about thinking on their feet, finding their angle and making those few minutes count.

Thriving doesn't always look like a big breakthrough.

Sometimes it looks like accepting a role you've never tried before.
Preparing for a speech.
Speaking when it would be easier to stay quiet.
Receiving feedback and coming back better.
Or simply deciding that where you are today isn't where you have to remain.

Growth happens in those moments.

At Liberty Speakers, we're reminded regularly that confidence, communication and leadership aren't destinations we suddenly arrive at.

We practice them.
We develop them.
And little by little, we begin thriving in places where we once hesitated.

Not every ripple begins with speaking.

Some begin with listening. Really listening. Not preparing your answer while someone else talks. Not waiting for your opportunity to jump in.

Listening to understand what someone is actually trying to communicate.

At Liberty Speakers, speaking may be what people notice first.

But listening is everywhere.

We listen to speeches.
We listen before evaluating.
We listen during impromptu speaking.
We listen to understand one another.

Beyond the lectern, that same skill can change conversations, relationships and leadership.

Sometimes the most influential person in a conversation is the one who truly listened.
