St George's Hanover Square

St George's Hanover Square Parish church of Mayfair since 1725 ST GEORGE'S, HANOVER SQUARE:
THE PARISH CHURCH OF MAYFAIR. Morning Calm will resume on Monday 9th October 2023.

Splendidly refurbished in 2010 it was built between 1721-1725 to the designs of John James, as one of the Fifty Churches projected by Queen Anne's Act of 1711. The reredos is from the workshop of Grinling Gibbons and frames a Last Supper painted for St George's by William Kent in 1724. The windows contain Flemish glass of the early 16th century from Antwerp. George Frideric Handel was a regular wo

rshipper at St George's which is now home to the annual London Handel Festival. We have a reputation for dignified and traditional formal worship based on the Book of Common Prayer, magnificent music provided by our fine professional choir and thoughtful preaching. We strive to be a Christian community in the catholic tradition of the Church standing as a beacon of faith in the heart of the West End of London, with a mission to serve the needs of those locally and our many visitors. St George's is part of the Church of England's Diocese of London within the Anglican Communion, in some countries known as the Episcopal Church. In an age when many are looking for a disciplined way of spirituality and a more reflective, meditative style of worship, St George's has much to offer. The congregation is varied and friendly and comprises people who travel in from further afield as well as those who live in the surrounding area. It reflects the diversity of the city in which it is set and welcomes people of belief and those who doubt. The church is open to visitors and for prayer Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.30am and 4.00pm. SERVICES
