Merton Music Foundation

Merton Music Foundation We organise large scale concerts and events and actively contribute to the national discussion about music education.

Our vision is a borough where music resonates along the corridors of every school and echoes throughout the community; a place of aspiration where every child can find their first notes, make progress and flourish as a young musician. What We Do

Working with our hub partners, we support and advocate for music in Merton schools via staff training, whole-class teaching / First Access and special pr

ojects. We offer pupils one-to-one and small group instrumental lessons in school, out of school & online, operate an instrument hire service, provide financial assistance to enable young people to access lessons, and run a wide range of ensembles and choirs from our South Wimbledon Music Centre.

We’re proud to stand alongside our colleagues at Redbridge Music School and support their campaign to protect its future.

For 40 years, the school has given children and young people the opportunity to learn, perform and make music together - building confidence, creativity, friendships and a sense of belonging. We know first-hand the impact that music education can have on individuals, families, schools and the wider community.

What happens to one music service matters to all of us. Young people deserve access to high-quality music education and spaces where they can come together to make music.

If you believe music education should be protected and accessible to all young people, please sign and share the petition.

A little look back at our Birdsong Summer Celebration concert, celebrating the wonderful musicians at our Saturday Music School at Wimbledon College.

Children from our Step Into Music programme were joined by some of our talented lesson students, sharing what they’ve been learning and bringing so much joy to their performances. It was wonderful to see them grow in confidence and having so much fun making music together.

Step Into Music gives our youngest musicians the opportunity to explore music through fun, creative and interactive sessions, developing their musical skills, confidence and love of music from an early age. Our youngest group also enjoys sessions where parents and carers can join in, making music together and sharing in their children’s musical journey.

A huge well done to all the children who performed - you were absolutely brilliant! And a very special thank you to our fantastic Step Into Music tutor, Sarah, for creating such a joyful, encouraging and inspiring musical experience for our young musicians.
