Airdrops are not the solution to Israel’s systematic campaign of starvation, and instead relieve Israel and its supporters of the pressure to lift the total siege, says MAP’s Aseel Badouin on Al Jazeera.

On 29 February, in the north of Gaza, the Israeli military shot and killed up to 112 starving Palestinians seeking food aid, while 760 others were injured. MAP strongly condemns this horrific attack on desperate people.

We demand a thorough, swift and independent investigation into this and all instances of attacks on civilians in Gaza. Those responsible must be held to account.

Starvation is being used as a weapon of war in Gaza, with some on the brink of famine.

MAP’s CEO Melanie Ward said: “People in Gaza who have been systematically denied food by the Israeli military for the last five months are now paying with their lives to get hold of it. Under international law, it is Israel's responsibility to provide for the basic needs of the people of Gaza. Instead, we're seeing that people are being starved and then some have been shot dead because they're trying to get hold of food aid to stay alive.”

2 million Palestinians are now facing acute food insecurity, with an estimated 576,000 experiencing catastrophic levels of hunger. Malnutrition is reaching critical levels in Gaza, particularly in the north which is completely cut off from aid.

The UN reports that the decline in the population’s nutrition status is at a globally unprecedented rate, while children in Gaza are being starved at the fastest rate that the world has ever seen.

58k additional deaths are projected in Gaza over the next six months if there is no ceasefire.

We are joining with International Rescue Committee in calling on the international community to take urgent action to establish a permanent, immediate .

"This is the fastest decline in a population's nutrition status ever recorded. That means children are being starved at the fastest rate the world has ever seen."

MAP's CEO Melanie Ward speaking on CNN about the catastrophic levels of hunger that Israel's blockade is causing in Gaza, and how people there are resorting to eating animal feed to survive.
