A group of our members from the Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi-Academy Trust took a very long coach ride down to the Department for Education to protest the catastrophic financial mishandling of the trust, and subsequent cuts to teachers and support staff.

Nottingham mum, Kenna, came with them because its educators who are supporting her son – not the trust’s CEO.

When educators are treated fairly, children get the best chances. We want teachers to be able to support their students to the full, and they can't do that in an underfunded system. Up and down the country, schools are running on empty.

That is why we are balloting our members for industrial action on October 3. Because if the government won't , we must.

The funding crisis increases workload and intensifies pressure on staff.

Across schools and colleges, educators are being expected to do more with less.

That’s why this term’s bargaining calendar focus is workload.

With our upcoming ballot in October, strong workplace organisation will be essential in the months ahead.

Organise now and fight for change.

We are celebrating a huge victory at Hampstead School, Camden! 🎉

Following one day of strike action, NEU members have secured a guarantee that no support staff member will face a reduction in pay as a result of the current consultation.

Members have also won commitments to improve school culture and behaviour - as a result, all planned strike action in June has been called off.

This win shows the power of collective action. Congratulations to all members involved✊

'At the end of the day, the academy trusts were the bright idea of the Department for Education, so the buck stops with them.'

Kieran, NEU district and joint branch secretary for Derby, gives us some insight into the ongoing dispute at the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust. After years of poor financial decision making and a lack of transparency, the trust has decided to get rid of 80 teachers and support staff. We don't believe that educators and children should pay for the CEO's bad decisions.

Multi academy trusts are symptomatic of an education system that sidelines educators in favour of cost cutting, and the Department for Education need to answer to this. On 3 October, educators will have their say in our formal ballot. Together, we can .

This Refugee Week, we're reflecting on the 2026 theme: Courage.

Every day, refugees show extraordinary courage in seeking safety, rebuilding their lives, and enriching our communities. As educators and trade unionists, we stand in solidarity with refugees and asylum seekers and are committed to creating welcoming, inclusive schools for all.

The best way the government could thank teachers is by properly funding education, ensuring workloads are compatible with family life, protecting the 1,265-hour directed time limit, and providing a pay award that reflects the rising cost of living.

Today, NEU members at Woodfield School are holding a mega picket and protesting outside the Department for Education against fire and rehire 📢

After previous strike action, negotiations and failed attempts to reach a fair agreement, staff are continuing their fight against plans that would cut the pay of highly skilled Lead Learning Assistants who support pupils with complex needs.

Fire and rehire is an unacceptable and has no place in education and we stand in solidarity with Woodfield school educators ✊

Today is National Thank a Teacher Day, and we want to take a moment to thank each and every educator in the UK from the bottom of our hearts.

Educators have acted tirelessly as the first line of defence for young people against the systemic failure of successive governments in recent years. Despite the significant and growing challenges in schools today, educators continue to push for better standards in classrooms, and in doing so fight for the future of our education system and our children.

Thank you for advocating to Save Education. We will never stop advocating for you.

Welfare not warfare.

As governments across Europe ramp up military spending at the expense of funding for public services, the need for a strong and united peace movement has never been greater.

Join trade unionists and peace activists from across Europe at the International Anti-War Conference on Saturday 20 June in London to discuss how we can resist the drive towards war and work for peace.
