Young Women's Trust

Young Women's Trust Young Women’s Trust believes that a society in which young women participate fully is a better society for everyone. We are an old charity with a new approach.

Young Women's Trust supports and represents women aged 18-30 struggling to live on low or no pay in England and Wales and who are at risk of being trapped in poverty. We want young women to be respected and heard, to be self-confident and to have the opportunity to be financially independent. We have been around for almost 150 years, both as the YWCA England and Wales and more recently Platform 51

. We are proud of what we have achieved and we determined to do more. We have recently launched our free online and telephone coaching service, Work It Out - find out more or sign up www.facebook.com/ywtworkitout

We're angry. And you should be too.

Today the Guardian revealed that BBC presenter Ashley Cain has a decade-long public record of calling women "slags", "s***s" and "bi***es" and of behaviour that has caused real harm to real women.

The BBC commissioned him anyway. Twice. Without, it seems, even the most basic checks. They praised his ability to connect with young men. But what about young women? What message does this send to us about how much our safety, our dignity, and our experiences actually matter to the institutions that shape our culture?

This is not just a BBC problem. This is every workplace that promotes someone without asking hard questions. Every organisation that sees a warning sign and looks away. Every institution that prioritises appeal over accountability.

We work every day to make sure young women don't have to navigate workplaces that fail them like this. Stories like today's remind us exactly why that work is urgent.

To every young woman reading this, your anger is valid. Your experiences matter. And you deserve to work, live and exist in spaces free from this type of behaviour.

You can’t close the pay gap if women don’t know what the job pays.

Show the salary on the job ad. It’s that simple.

The EU have just made that the law. Sign our statement and tell the Government to do the same in the UK. https://bit.pulse.ly/ncaqpmihvb

Kemi Badenoch and Claire Coutinho are calling scrapping your rights “common sense.”

We need to talk about that.

Liberty ran the London Marathon 2026 for Young Women's Trust, and her reason stopped us in our tracks. 🥰

"I wanted to support other women so they can get the life-changing coaching I had access to."

She ran 26.2 miles for that. We're so proud.

Inspired? Join Team Young Women's Trust at the Manchester Half Marathon in October or Manchester Marathon in April 2027.

Every mile you run helps more young women access the support and opportunities to thrive at work and beyond.

Together, we can go further for gender equality.

You're not choosing this. You're being failed by a labour market that wasn't built for you.

The government’s own report (The Milburn Report) has made this very clear. Now we need action that treats this as a gendered problem and comes with gendered solutions.

To all young women - we're here with you, challenging the broken system together. And if you need some support finding work, we’ve got you. https://youngwomenstrust.pulse.ly/lrzdknlqpl

When Hannah met Hannah 🤝

Our ambassador Hannah recently sat down with Hannah Spencer, MP for Gorton and Denton to share her experiences of discrimination at work - and she was brilliant.

Hannah (the ambassador) came with ideas, Hannah (the MP) came with enthusiasm, and together we had a really productive conversation about how we can work together to drive change for young women.

This feels like the start of something important. Watch this space. 👀
