Young Women's Trust Young Women’s Trust believes that a society in which young women participate fully is a better society for everyone. We are an old charity with a new approach.

Young Women's Trust supports and represents women aged 18-30 struggling to live on low or no pay in England and Wales and who are at risk of being trapped in poverty. We want young women to be respected and heard, to be self-confident and to have the opportunity to be financially independent. We have been around for almost 150 years, both as the YWCA England and Wales and more recently Platform 51. We are proud of what we have achieved and we determined to do more. Nearly half a million young women are not in education, employment or training. But they're not there by choice.

They're facing discrimination, a tough job market and too few opportunities that fit around their lives.

Too often, they're left to find their way on their own.

That's why we're here.

Last year we helped more than 5,000 young women build confidence, develop skills and find work with our free services.

And we continue to campaign with young women for fairer work and equal rights.

Big changes to your rights at work this year ⬇️

Last December the Employment Rights Act 2025 was introduced, bringing major changes to UK labour laws, focusing on strengthening job security and boosting wages.

These changes have been rolled out across this year and next year. Here are some things that have changed so far:

1/ The Fair Work Agency was set up by the Government to handle all workplace rights enforcement. Young Women’s Trust have been working with them to make sure this agency works for you.

2/ Day-one rights to paternity leave and unpaid parental leave. You also have more protection from being fired during pregnancy and after returning from maternity leave.

3/ You can claim Statutory Sick Pay from the first day you’re ill, not after waiting for three four days. No minimum earnings threshold for this. Even if you’re on a low income, you are covered.

So let’s make sure they hear from you.

Maybe you’ve been harassed walking home.
Maybe you’ve dealt with sexism at work, college or university.
Maybe you’ve changed what you wear, where you go or what you say because of how you might be treated.

We stand with Manchester’s Jewish community following news of a suspected terrorist plot targeting Jewish people in the city.

Coming so close to the anniversary of last year’s horrific attack at Heaton Park Synagogue, we know this news will bring fear and distress to many.

There is no place for antisemitism. We must come together to challenge hatred, reject disinformation and refuse to let attempts to divide our communities succeed.

We stand with everyone working to build communities where people can live, worship and go about their lives without fear.

This video was made by a group of young women from Tyneside to expose the extreme sexist abuse they’ve experienced, as part of a project with .

No young woman should feel worthless, frightened or unsafe because of the misogyny she experiences at school, online or in everyday life.

The language and behaviours these girls describe are not “just banter”.

Threats of violence and sexual violence are not jokes.
We need honest conversations with boys and young men about respect, equality and healthy relationships.
But we must also be clear: misogyny is a choice, and it must be challenged wherever it appears.

To the girls who shared their experiences: we hear you, we believe you, and we stand with you. Thank you for speaking out so bravely.

No one should have to negotiate their future in the dark.

Young Women’s Trust welcomes the Government’s consultation on pay transparency, a vital step towards making workplaces fairer.

Too many young women start their careers already facing inequality. They earn around £4,000 less than young men from day one, and hidden salaries can lock them into a cycle of lower pay.

When employers publish salaries on job adverts and stop asking about salary history, everyone has a fairer chance.
Because knowing what a job pays isn’t a privilege, it’s a basic part of a fair workplace.

Women deserve equal pay. Now we need action to make it a reality. Link in bio to take action.
