Bravo Zulu to the seven cadets from TS DREADNOUGHT who played in London Area Sea Cadet Band at the Lady Mayor's Music Competition at the Guildhall in the City of London. Congratulations on your hard work especially to those for whom it was their first time in the band.

It was especially fantastic to also have the support of our Deputy Lieutenant, our Area Officer and the Captain of the Sea Cadets.

A huge thank you to the volunteers who made it possible and Merton Sea Cadets for their hospitality as a training venue.

The look of locked in concentration!
Four Greenwich cadets are making their debut with three other Greenwich bandies joining in with the London Area Sea Cadet Band this weekend at the Lady Mayor’s Music Competition at the Guildhall in the City of London. We’re so very proud of them stepping out of comfort zones and challenging themselves. They've really embodied the core corps values of self discipline, commitment and courage.

Good luck and have fun at the competition. It’s a brilliant event that promotes music across the cadet forces in London.

A big thank you to the Band Volunteer Staff for their hard work for this event. The pride on the cadets’ faces seeing how far they’d come during rehearsals was a fantastic sight.

We were pleased to welcome the Duke of Sussex and award nominees to the The Invictus Games Foundation Spirit Gala Dinner and Awards tonight in Greenwich celebrating the remarkable individuals and organisations who embody resilience, service, and the unconquered spirit at the heart of global Invictus community.

These inspiring members of the wounded, injured, and sick (WIS) service personnel, veteran communities and the wider community have used sport or adventure as part of their recovery journey, or for that of others. They are an example to us all.

We were pleased to support the Merchant Navy Day National Commemorative Service at Trinity Square Gardens today. The names of over 36,000 merchant seafarers who lost their lives keeping Britain fed and supplied in times of conflict are remembered there. Even today 95% of goods are brought to us by sea.

Our cadets paraded and were honoured to be aides to Admiral Lord West of Spithead GCB DSC PC, former First Sea Lord, including carrying his wreath for the First World War Memorial and his wreath from the HMS Ardent Association for the Falklands Memorial. He was CO of HMS Ardent when she was sunk by enemy action in 1982 losing 22 of her 199 crew.

It was also great to see Captain Hannah MacKenzie VR RNR for the second time this week - more about later!

The cadets and volunteers are all looking forward to welcoming our families, supporters and guests this evening to a special parade in which we’ll formally receive the Canada Trophy as best Sea Cadet Unit in the country for 2025.

We’ll also be marking Merchant Navy Day in a distinctive way, and honouring the lives of the seafarers who have kept Britain fed and fueled.

We’re flying the Red Ensign this Merchant Navy Day to remember the men and women who kept Britain fed, fueled and fighting in both World Wars and since. During the conflicts over 54,000 seafarers from age 14-74 lost their lives.

The Merchant Navy continues to supply Britain to this day with an astonishing 95% of all goods entering Britain doing so via shipping.

A big thank you to our fantastic volunteer staff who gave up time over the bank holiday weekend to make the unit ship shape for our Canada Trophy presentation evening and annual inspection this week.
Polishing, painting, washing, scrubbing, dusting, vacuuming, deep cleaning, tidying, painting, wiping. It’s not a straightforward job in such an historic building especially when it’s had heavy use in the last few weeks by film crews working in the college, but it’s made a such a difference.
