🎶 Annual Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral 🎶

All are warmly welcome to join the congregation for the Musicians’ Company Annual Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral on Wednesday 7 October at 5pm (no ticket required).

Held nearly every year since 1908, this special service is a highlight of the City calendar, with representatives of many Livery Companies processing through the Cathedral.

The music for the service is particularly special, with all the music composed by past and current members of The Musicians’ Company.

We hope you can join us for this wonderful celebration of music, tradition and the City.

Congratulations to Donovan Haffner, who has been named the winner of the 2026 Tina May Young Jazz Musician Award! 🎷✨

Donovan was one of six outstanding young jazz musicians who came together for the final at PizzaExpress Soho, performing two sets with just two hours of rehearsal time. Each finalist presented an original composition, alongside other repertoire, making for a wonderful evening showcasing the creativity, individuality and musicianship of this year’s finalists.

Congratulations also to Niklas Lukassen, who received the Audience Award, and to fellow finalists Nick Davydenko, Klara Devlin, Will Inscoe and Miles Pillinger. 👏

Special thanks to our judges, Will Barry and Tim Garland, both past recipients of the award, for helping to make such a memorable evening possible.

The Master Musician and the Clerk were delighted recently to support Freemen James Eggleston and Adam Heron at their City of London Freedom Ceremony by redemption of a Livery Company, alongside their friends and family.

Our thanks to the Chamberlain’s Clerk, Laura Miller, and the Beadle for their warm welcome, and for celebrating the long-standing connection between the City of London and music-making.

A wonderful occasion celebrating James and Adam as they take this next step in their journey with the City and the Musicians’ Company. 🎶

🎉 Congratulations to Musician Sally Cowling, Principal Oboist in the Band of the Scots Guards, who last week won the Household Division’s Musician of the Year Competition.

Sally was a 2025 recipient of the Musicians’ Company Cassel Silver Medal, and we are delighted to see her continuing to achieve such success in her career!

🎶 What a wonderful July Court, Informal Lunch and Common Hall yesterday held at Stationers' Hall.

We were delighted to admit eight new Freemen to the Company and to celebrate excellence across the profession by presenting the inaugural Video Game Composition Award to Tom Burkill, our the 2025 Patricia Prindl Prize for Music Participation to harpist Heather Brooks, and the Santley Gift to soprano Carolyn Sampson OBE.

Following Court, our 2025 Lambert Fellow Maria Linares gave an inspiring piano recital, setting the tone for a convivial lunch, the Master's heartfelt address, and Common Hall.

This Members meeting Hall was especially significant as the Clerk, Master and Court Assistants unveiled the Company's new Five-Year Strategic Plan, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. As we celebrate the Musicians' Company's 525th anniversary, the plan sets out a clear vision for the Company and our Charitable Fund’s long-term health, sustainable growth, and continued impact in supporting young artists and early career musicians.

✨ A wonderful afternoon of fellowship, celebration and optimism for the future.

Congratulations to Tohi Harada, who has been selected as the holder of the 5th New Elizabethan Award following an outstanding Selection Round at the Royal Academy of Music. 🎶

The standard of performance was truly exceptional, highlighting the remarkable talent and artistry of all eight finalists. As holder of the Award for the next two years, Tohi will present the NEA Wigmore Hall Showcase at Wigmore Hall in February 2027, alongside a series of concerts at prestigious venues.

Our warmest congratulations to Tohi, whose latest success follows his recent receipt of the Company's Prince's Prize (2026) and Ivor Mairants Guitar Award (2025). We also extend our heartfelt thanks to all the outstanding performers for making the day such a memorable celebration of music.

Finally, our sincere thanks go to our distinguished panel for their time, expertise and thoughtful deliberation throughout the selection process: Julian Anderson CBE (composer), Paula Chateauneuf (lutenist), James Gilchrist (tenor), Paul Galbraith and Helen Sanderson (guitarists), and Andrew West (pianist and concert promoter), with Michael Lewin (Pastmaster) serving as non-voting chairman.

What a truly unforgettable evening at our annual Midsummer Banquet! 🔥☀️

We were delighted to welcome our esteemed guests Alison Balsom OBE and Sheriff Keith Bottomley, alongside the brilliant Jim Trott MBE, Founder of Brass for Africa, who delivered an uplifting address.

🎖️ Alison Balsom OBE was presented with the Company's 2026 Gold Medal in recognition of her exceptional artistry, technical brilliance, and lifelong commitment to musical excellence.

Musical magic was certainly in the (very warm!) air, with outstanding performances from the Royal Military School of Music Fanfare Team, members of the St Paul’s Cathedral Choir, and Spectrum Brass, who brought energy, elegance, and brilliance to the evening despite the soaring temperatures. 🎺

A heartfelt thank you to Fishmongers’ Hall for graciously hosting us in such spectacular surroundings, and to everyone who helped make the evening such a memorable celebration.

We were delighted to celebrate Lucy-Anne Daniels, winner of the Tina May Young Jazz Musician Award 2025, with a fantastic performance alongside an exceptional trio of musicians: Alex Bryson on piano, Lorenzo Morabito on bass and Jack Thomas on drums.

What a memorable night celebrating exceptional young jazz talent. ✨

What a wonderful afternoon of music at Wigmore Hall! 🎶

We were delighted to present a Musicians’ Company Concert with performances by Sejin Yoon (piano) and Trio Havisham thanks to the Maisie Lewis Fund and our Concerts Advisory Committee. We are proud to support such talent through our Young Artists' Programme.

Congratulations to these exceptional young artists and thanks to all who joined us for this marvellous concert!

🏆 Congratulations to Tom Burkill, winner of the inaugural WCOM Award for Video Game Composition.

The Award recognises emerging composers working in video games — one of the fastest-growing areas of contemporary music and interactive media.

Tom’s winning showreel, TetherGeist, stood out for its strong musical identity, technical craft, and sensitivity to the interactive nature of game music.

👏 Congratulations also to Blake Johnson, who was named Highly Commended, and thank you to everyone who submitted work in this first year of the Award.
