🏆 Congratulations to Tom Burkill, winner of the inaugural WCOM Award for Video Game Composition.

The Award recognises emerging composers working in video games — one of the fastest-growing areas of contemporary music and interactive media.

Tom’s winning showreel, TetherGeist, stood out for its strong musical identity, technical craft, and sensitivity to the interactive nature of game music.

👏 Congratulations also to Blake Johnson, who was named Highly Commended, and thank you to everyone who submitted work in this first year of the Award.

Last month marked an important moment in the Musicians’ Company history as we proudly signed the Armed Forces Covenant at the Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch held in Guildhall, witnessed by HRH The Duke of Gloucester.

It was a pleasure to welcome Lieutenant Colonel Lauren Petritz-Watts, Principal Director of Music (Army), to represent the Company’s long-standing historic and active links with the Armed Forces music service units, pictured here signing the Covenant with Master Musician Alun Hughes.

This pledge reflects the Company’s commitment to supporting those who serve, or have served in the Armed Forces, along with their families; as well as maintaining the Company’s strong relationships with the serving members of the Royal Corps of Army Music, the Royal Marines Band Service and the Royal Air Force Music Service with our Company Cassel Silver and Bronze Medals, and Bandmaster Awards.

We recognise the value, dedication, and sacrifice members of the Armed Forces bring to our communities and to the nation and we are honoured to stand alongside many other Livery Companies and organisations across the UK in ensuring that members of the Armed Forces community are treated with fairness and respect.

On Monday evening, The Musicians’ Company was delighted to join The Stationers’ Company at Stationers’ Hall for this year’s Henry Purcell Lecture: The role of the BBC in Music – Custodian, Curator or Creator?

A huge thank you to Sam Jackson, Controller of BBC Radio 3 and BBC Proms, for an insightful and thought-provoking lecture exploring the future of classical music broadcasting, the BBC Proms, and the wider musical landscape.

We were also proud to showcase the exceptional artistry of double bassist Strahinja Mitrović, who gave outstanding performances during the evening, accompanied by pianist Chloe Dumoulin. Together, they represent the very best of emerging musical talent as Young Artists of the Musicians' Company.

Thank you to Roger Lewis for hosting and to everyone who joined us for such a memorable evening of music, lively discussions, and fellowship.

🎶 Yesterday at Cutlers’ Hall was a brilliant celebration of talent and achievement at our first Court meeting and social occasion of the year!

We were delighted to present the 2025 Jazz Lifetime Achievement Award to John Etheridge, with a citation delivered by Pastmaster East.

Congratulations also to composer and pianist Ethan Loch (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), who received a Company Silver Medal.

We were proud to admit 16 new Freemen — a wonderful range of experience joining the Company with composers, singers, musicians of all genres and former Young Artists.

Before lunch, over 100 members and guests enjoyed a superb short recital in the Hall from flautist Maia Roberts, our 2025 Wind Award Winner, accompanied by Alexander Wyatt.
