You are warmly invited to our upcoming show, Still River, at .

Still River is an exhibition of photographic works by members and friends of The Gate Darkroom, our community darkroom situated next to the Thames between Greenwich and Woolwich. Curated by Sarah Ainslie, the exhibition brings together a diverse range of responses to the theme of ‘River’ explored through film photography and alternative processes. Works are inspired by the river theme both as a presence in the landscape and as a concept, drawing on its transitory nature and the narratives it carries: beginnings and endings, transition and loss, environmental change and generational memory. The exhibition is the culmination of collective reflection that included a work in progress show at Thames-Side Studios in early May this year.

Sarah Ainslie is a freelance photographer based in London’s East End since 1980’s, whose rich history of shifting populations, stories, protests and fights for justice has been a constant source of inspiration for her personal projects whether in the streets, markets, the worlds of women’s work and performance. She works with theatre companies whilst collaborating and facilitating community photography projects.

Our next one-day introduction to black and white darkroom photography course is on Saturday 27th June. You’ll develop your own film, make a contact sheet, and leave with your first darkroom print, all in a day.

Taught in a small group in our fully equipped darkroom by our friendly and experienced facilitators.

Coming up this weekend Sat 6th -Sun 7th June we’re opening our doors as part of the open studios!

We’re opening our between 11am-5pm both days and will have taster workshops and demonstrations so you can get a flavour of how we work with analogue photography.

💙 11am-1pm Cyanotype drop-in workshops. Come and make a print with us using this fun photographic technique. All ages welcome!

🖤 2-4pm Darkroom printing demonstrations. Come and see our working darkroom in action and see a print being made from a negative and developed.
