We have always helped children living in under-served communities shine. Now we are giving that commitment a name.

For nearly a decade, FTA has supported children and families living with sickle cell through education, community outreach, health promotion and practical support.

The name is new but our mission isn’t.

Today, we are proud to reintroduce SHINE, our wellbeing framework that brings together everything we do under one clear vision.

🏡 I – Interventions (At Home)
🍎 N – Nutrition & Nourishment
📚 E – Education & Empowerment

SHINE reflects our belief that every child deserves the opportunity to live well, dream big and achieve their full potential.

This is a clearer expression of the work we have always done and the future we’re building together.

Watch this space for our next SHINE event as we continue supporting children and families living with sickle cell.

Every donation, every volunteer, every partnership and every shared post helps us reach more children, strengthen more families and create brighter futures.

Memory and In Hope ♥️🤍

This World Sickle Cell Day feels different.

We have been quieter, grieving and taking time to heal after a season of profound loss.

Yet love endures, and so does our commitment.

Today, we honour every warrior, every caregiver, every family, and every loved one whose memory inspires us to keep advocating for awareness, understanding and compassionate care.

Though our voices may have been quieter, our hearts remain steadfast.

Quiet, but still committed to fighting for better outcomes.

In memory.
In hope.
And with love.

🦟 World Malaria Day

Malaria hits differently when you are living with sickle cell — and very often, that risk is overlooked especially in rural communities.

At FTA, this has been a core part of our work:

• getting malaria prevention kits directly to our warriors and their families.

• having real conversations about what to look out for

• breaking down myths around sickle cell trait and malaria

• and now we are supporting work in Uganda to turn research into something people can actually use.

We are not just doing the work on raising awareness, we are focussed on malaria prevention for warriors.

Because malaria:

- can trigger a sickle cell crisis
- destroys red blood cells → worsens anaemia
- can reduce oxygen levels → increases sickling and pain crises
- can increase risk of severe complications (acute chest syndrome, stroke, mortality)

The impact you leave isn’t measured in hours… it’s measured in lives. Especially for these kids who live with so much pain and suffering.
