Today marks Ukraine's 32nd Independence anniversary. Every year has brought its challenges, but since the 24th of February 2022, the stakes have been unprecedentedly high. Not only was the state attacked, but Ukrainian identity and a concept of Ukraine as a whole were challenged. The most disheartening part is that behind those grand words lies human suffering and death every single day, each passing hour. As I write this post and as you read it.
For reasons we never wished for, Ukraine’s Independence Day has truly become an international holiday. Because our war is not just a territorial conflict, nor is it a result of a diplomatic failure, but rather another iteration of a conflict between two major ideologies, which can be labeled as Liberty vs Oppression. These two ideologies have taken different shapes throughout human history, and today they manifest as those who are for Ukraine and those who are against it. No in-between and no grey area, it's that simple.
Our main message to an international audience is, first and foremost, gratitude for all the support we have been receiving from various countries across the globe. And the second one is a reminder that all this help (military, civil, etc.) is not charity but a moral obligation if you care about democracy, human rights, and freedom at large.
Let’s do all in our power so that the next time you will be reading a post dedicated to Ukraine’s independence, all the war mentions will be in the past tense, and mourning of losses will be mixed with a sense of victorious relief.
Slava Ukrayini!
