Today is World Mental Health Day 💙 We want to introduce our Counselling Service for people aged 55+ to you!

Age UK Camden is one out of five Age UKs across the country that provide a counselling service for older adults. For 28 years, our service has provided a safe and confidential environment for clients to talk through any emotional issues or concerns. 💬

📅 In 3 days, 2 amazing runners Nick & Julian will take on Royal Parks Half Marathon to fundraise for us 🏃🔥 Our CEO Ross Diamond has a few words:

💬 After much soul-searching, I have decided not to claim that the Age UK Camden runner in this week’s Royal Parks Half is me – but to admit that it is actually my older brother, Julian, who is undertaking this amazing effort for us, along with his running-mate Nick.

Whilst Julian is 2 years older than me, he is a 'parkrun' regular (dare I say, obsessively so?) so he looks younger, slimmer and generally more healthy than me. The only time I am likely to be seen running is if I am trying to catch a bus because I am in danger of missing the kick-off of the Arsenal match in the pub.

Julian ran the London Marathon several years ago but hasn’t done anything like this for some time so I am very grateful to him and Nick for agreeing to undertake this feat on behalf of Age UK Camden. He ought to be an inspiration to all of us to stay fit in later life - and although I suspect I will never take up running, I am determined to find other ways to keep fit and flexible as I get older.

Over 50 people joined our annual volunteer celebration event last month 💝

Age UK Camden is immensely grateful for the support our volunteers has given us. They have shared thousands of hours with us to help support the older residents in Camden in a wide range of ways. 🤝

Every year, we present special awards to volunteers who've made an outstanding contribution. We also send out Certificates of Appreciation to all volunteers who have supported our charity in the past year. 👏

We will continue to celebrate the time, commitment and generosity our volunteers have given us, and their impact on making a difference to many older people's lives in Camden. 💙

Age UK Camden is saddened to hear the news of the passing of our former patron, Dame Esther Rantzen.

Esther was a true inspiration and spent her life working tirelessly to help others. Esther’s dedication and commitment to older people was unrivalled and her legacy will carry on through Silver Line Helpline, which she founded in 2012 and which has been delivered by the national Age UK charity since 2019 and which has now answered over 4 million calls from older people.

Esther was also an active patron of Age UK Camden, and supported our work in a range of ways, including being a star of our Literary Festival in March 2020 at St Marks Church in Primrose Hill and a regular visitor at our Henderson Court Day Centre in Hampstead. Following a Skype chat with the Centre members in October 2021 our Community Engagement Officer, Maria Robinson, thanked Esther by saying, “Your honesty around your own experiences of being alone, struck a chord. There seemed to be a great sense of pride within the group after the event. The fact that people’s experiences and opinions were of interest to you was of great significance. Your act of listening was in itself an acknowledgement of people’s value and status as older people in our society, with opinions and voices which require amplifying.”

Our condolences are with Esther’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Thanks to National Portrait Gallery for facilitating another wonderful creative session with the older people from Camden 🎨

Our older community members visited the latest Marilyn Monroe exhibition at the Gallery, and created their own monoprinting artwork inspired by Marilyn's iconic prints ✨️
