Opening up a world of possibility to girls from the least advantaged communities through mentoring, work experience and a network of female role models.

We believe that all girls have a right to be able to access the best opportunities available, and should not be limited by gender. We believe girls have the right to high aspirations and knowledge of their self-worth and capacity to shape their world. We have seen across classrooms, too many girls unable to speak out or express themselves. Both research and our everyday teaching experience shows t

here to be a real poverty of aspiration and self-worth amongst girls in both mixed and single-sex schools. This is a problem that is echoed across businesses and professions around the world. STEM subjects struggle to recruit girls; on average, FTSE 100 companies have only 17.3 % female representation on their boards, and there are only two FTSE 100 female Chief Executives. This is not because girls are not capable. This is because they believe they will not succeed. Or others believe they will not succeed. The Girls’ Network

Mentors
We want to smash through any ceiling stopping girls realising their potential. We want to offer girls mentorship from inspirational and motivated women across a range of professions and from a wide range of backgrounds, to develop confidence, inspire high aspirations and facilitate incredible futures. Work experience
We want to open up meaningful work experience across a range of industries, especially those with a low percentage of women, to provide training and skills development and an on-going relationship with these girls. Working with schools
We want to work with schools – teachers and students – to ensure the classroom and the corridors and the playground are all places where girls are supported to thrive. Not at the expense of boys, but in partnership with boys, with the support and encouragement all of their peers and their teachers. The Girls’ Network believes that mentorship and work experience can open the door to high aspiration and opportunities not always afforded to girls.

Behind every handwritten card we receive at the end of one of our programmes is a young woman who now sees her future a little differently.

Through 1-to-1 mentoring, girls in our network are building confidence, identifying skills they didn't know they had, and - in the words of one mentee here - "getting rid of that mean voice."

Mentoring gives a young woman a safe space to talk openly about her hopes, ambitions, and career paths with someone outside of school or home, making an incredible difference to her confidence and self-belief.

Good luck to all the young people receiving their results today! 🌟

Results season brings immense pressure - not just for students, but for the parents, carers, mentors and teachers walking alongside them. Following last week’s A-Level results and with GCSE results out today, some in our network will be supporting young people who feel overwhelmed or disappointed.

Our Ambassador Iulia knows this feeling well. When her exams didn't go to plan, she felt like her world had collapsed. But taking a different path and leaning on community support helped her reach her goals.

As Iulia shares in her story: "progress doesn’t always follow a straight line, and not every change in direction is a setback. Sometimes, the path shifts for a reason, and there is value in the journey itself - not just the outcome."

💚 Meet Donna, one of our mentors who joined a summer programme earlier this year, sharing why she chose to become a mentor for the third time.

Our mentors join The Girls’ Network for many different reasons. For Donna, it was partly because she wished she’d had a mentor herself when she was younger - and she wanted to be that person for someone else.

After meeting her mentee, she was reminded just how inspiring, ambitious and full of potential the next generation of young women are.

One thing we hear often from mentors is how much they get from the experience too. The chance to connect with young people, hear their perspectives and support them as they grow can be incredibly rewarding.

Our mentors come from all backgrounds and walks of life, and we’re so grateful to every one of them for the time, care and encouragement they give to girls and young women.

What support do we give to our mentors? 💚

We know that becoming a mentor can feel a little daunting - but you won’t be doing it alone.

When you join The Girls’ Network, you’ll become part of a network of women who all share a passion for making a difference. You’ll have the chance to connect with other mentors in your cohort, share experiences and learn from each other along the way.

Before you begin, you’ll receive training designed to help you feel confident in your role and prepare you for your mentoring relationship. Throughout your match, your Regional Programme Lead will be there to offer guidance, answer questions and support you whenever you need it.

You’ll also have access to a range of optional resources covering topics like confidence, communication, future planning, wellbeing and overcoming challenges - to get conversations started if you need a little help.

Being 15 can be a challenging time. There are so many decisions to make, expectations to navigate, and questions about what the future might look like.

💚 Our mentors come to The Girls' Network for all sorts of reasons.

For Catherine, it was a desire to give something back to her local community and help another young person navigate some of the same questions and decisions she's seen her own children face as they have grown up.

Mentors don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes the most valuable thing they can offer is encouragement, a listening ear and belief in a young person's potential.

We're so grateful to every mentor in our network for the time, care and support they give.
