The Girls' Network

The Girls' Network Opening up a world of possibility to girls from the least advantaged communities through mentoring, work experience and a network of female role models.

We believe that all girls have a right to be able to access the best opportunities available, and should not be limited by gender. We believe girls have the right to high aspirations and knowledge of their self-worth and capacity to shape their world. We have seen across classrooms, too many girls unable to speak out or express themselves. Both research and our everyday teaching experience shows t

here to be a real poverty of aspiration and self-worth amongst girls in both mixed and single-sex schools. This is a problem that is echoed across businesses and professions around the world. STEM subjects struggle to recruit girls; on average, FTSE 100 companies have only 17.3 % female representation on their boards, and there are only two FTSE 100 female Chief Executives. This is not because girls are not capable. This is because they believe they will not succeed. Or others believe they will not succeed. The Girls’ Network

Mentors
We want to smash through any ceiling stopping girls realising their potential. We want to offer girls mentorship from inspirational and motivated women across a range of professions and from a wide range of backgrounds, to develop confidence, inspire high aspirations and facilitate incredible futures. Work experience
We want to open up meaningful work experience across a range of industries, especially those with a low percentage of women, to provide training and skills development and an on-going relationship with these girls. Working with schools
We want to work with schools – teachers and students – to ensure the classroom and the corridors and the playground are all places where girls are supported to thrive. Not at the expense of boys, but in partnership with boys, with the support and encouragement all of their peers and their teachers. The Girls’ Network believes that mentorship and work experience can open the door to high aspiration and opportunities not always afforded to girls.

This , we're proud to share a blog from our Ambassador Amy about her experience of helping to care for her grandad.

In her honest and moving piece, Amy reflects on the rewards and challenges of caring, the special bond she shares with her grandad, and the importance of supporting the people we love.

Many of the girls in our network will have caring responsibilities of some sort, balancing education or work, friendships and plans for the future alongside supporting family members. This week we celebrate their contribution and recognise the millions of unpaid carers across the UK who give their time, energy and care so generously.

Today is Social Mobility Day! 🪜🚀💚

When The Girls’ Network was founded, the idea was simple: to give girls and young women access to the kinds of networks, opportunities and encouragement that have long helped others get ahead.

We know talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn't always. Too many girls still grow up feeling that certain careers, places or futures aren't for people like them.

That's why mentoring matters.

It's about helping girls build confidence, broaden their horizons, meet people they might never otherwise meet, and start to see more possibilities for themselves.

As our former mentee and ambassador Aiseosa put it:

"She helped me believe that where I started did not define where I could go."

That captures so much of what we're about. Helping girls and young women believe in themselves, recognise their potential, and feel able to reach for futures that may once have felt out of reach.

A huge thank you to all the mentors, schools, partners and supporters who help make that possible every day 💚

There is so much discussion in the news about young people, their opportunities, and their futures. Through the many conversations we have with the girls and young women in our network, we know the challenges they face are real and often complex.

But we also know that mentoring can make a powerful difference.

Our mentors help girls build confidence, explore opportunities, and feel more positive about the future. They provide encouragement, a listening ear, and the chance to talk openly about hopes, worries and ambitions with someone outside of school or home.

You don't need to have all the answers or have everything in your own life completely figured out. Our mentors come from all walks of life and a wide range of backgrounds. What matters most is showing up, listening, and believing in a young person's potential.

If you'd like to help a girl in your area feel more confident about her future, we'd love to hear from you.

💚 We're sharing another story from one of our amazing mentors as part of .

Meet Ilana, who joined us for her third mentoring match earlier this year. Here, she shares why she believes in the power of mentoring, and how being part of our network can help girls reach for their unlimited futures.

One of the things we hear time and again is that mentoring is a two-way street. While mentors support girls to build confidence and think positively about their futures, they often tell us they learn just as much from their mentees. From gaining insight into the experiences of a younger generation to reflecting on their own lives and ambitions, mentoring can be a rewarding experience for everyone involved.

💚 As part of , we’re sharing stories from some of our amazing mentors.

Here’s Jennifer one of our new mentors in Liverpool, who chose to mentor because she wanted to help provide the guidance and encouragement she knows can make such a difference to a young person.

Our mentors join us for so many different reasons. Some want to better understand the experiences of a younger generation. Some want to share what they’ve learned in their careers. Others have experienced the power of mentoring themselves and want to give something back.

Whatever their reason, we are incredibly grateful to every mentor in our network for the time, care and encouragement they give to their mentees 💫

We’re now recruiting mentors for programmes starting this October. If you’d like to learn more, we’d love to hear from you: https://ow.ly/Pk8Z50Z7uSi.

💻 Our Ambassadors have been exploring technology and its impact on the world of work through a series of inspiring conversations and workshops.

From learning how AI is changing recruitment and CV writing in a conversation with Lisa Garner, Learning & Development Business Partner at Amoria Group Recruitment - to discussing careers and technology with Education Partnership Strategist Maryam Nkemena, these conversations are helping young women better understand the opportunities and challenges of a fast-moving job market.

At The Girls’ Network, we want girls and young women to feel informed, confident, and prepared for their . We are so grateful to the women across our network who generously give their time, insight and encouragement to help girls explore what’s possible. 💚

At The Girls’ Network, our programme team support girls and young women every day to believe in themselves, step outside their comfort zones, and aim high - and they lead by example too ✨

🏔 Ellie our Merseyside Programme Lead recently climbed Mount Toubkal in Morocco - the highest peak in North Africa at 4,167m
🏃‍♀️ This weekend Lena, one of our Programme Leads in London completed the Copenhagen Marathon
🚴‍♀️ And Amy our National Programmes Manager is currently taking on an incredible self-supported bike race across Spain and Portugal, riding around 210km a day over 6 days as part of the first event of its kind that is open only to women, non-binary and trans riders.

We’re so proud of them all. The determination, resilience and ambition they show in these challenges reflect the same qualities they encourage in the girls and young women we work with every day 💫
