You may have seen the recent installation of four decorative / commemorative pillars around the park and wondered what they were?
There used to be a large eucalyptus tree in the William Morris garden which was loved by many people and featured in many memories of the park. Unfortunately the tree fell down on 1st January 2024 and Friends of Lloyd Park felt it was important to try and preserve parts of the tree 🌳
Our original plan of creating some benches or seating was not possible, and so we settled on the idea of the commemorative posts with William Morris inspired carvings made from sections of the trunk.
It took a while to finish the project (998 days!) And we are very happy with the result. We hope to have some sort of celebration event where people can share their memories of the tree and what it meant to them so watch this space...
Tha k you to everyone who made this happen, especially Gareth for his perseverance and to Henry Henry for the carving of the posts.
Can you find all four of them?
