Brixton Community Clean-Up Returns

“This is bigger than just a clean-up. It’s about ownership, pride, and saying this is our area — and we’re not waiting for anyone else to fix it.” — Tafari, young event leader

After a brilliant first clean-up that brought together around 100 residents, young people, community groups and local partners, we’re back for Round 2!

On Sunday 7 June, communities across Brixton will once again come together to show pride in the places we live, work and spend time.

The first clean-up showed what can happen when local people step up together. New connections were made, public spaces were improved, and there was a real sense of community pride across Brixton.

- Give an hour of your time
- Meet your neighbours
- Help keep Brixton beautiful
- Be part of something positive

Sunday 7 June
12:30pm–2pm

Whether you’re joining in Central Brixton, Angell Town, Loughborough Estate, Moorlands Estate, Myatt’s Field Park, Lothian Estate or elsewhere, everyone is welcome.

Because Brixton is our home - and looking after it is something we do together.

Only Labour responds to ASB questions ahead of 7 May Lambeth elections

Ahead of the Lambeth local elections on 7 May, ACTION on ASB!, the Young People’s Movement and Brixton BID invited the four political parties standing candidates in every seat across the borough (Conservatives, Green Party, Liberal Democrats and Labour), to respond to a set of questions on tackling anti-social behaviour.

We received a response only from Labour. No responses were received from the other parties. While Labour’s engagement is welcome, the lack of response from others is disappointing.

Last week, we headed down to the for the launch of Lambeth’s Night Time Economy Strategy 2025–2030.

For Brixton, the strategy recognises the area’s cultural importance alongside the challenges people experience after dark, including concerns around lighting, crowding, vacant shopfronts, visible drug and alcohol use, and perceptions of safety.

It sets out actions focused on better coordination between the , , venues and policing teams, alongside practical measures such as access toilets, bringing long-term vacant units back into use, and more active, well-managed public spaces like Windrush Square, alongside ongoing policing.

We’ll be watching how these commitments translate into on-the-ground change in Brixton.

We’ve been calling for a joint agency taskforce to deal with ASB and crime in Brixton since the start of our campaign. This week local MPs, Met Police, Lambeth Council, British Transport Police, NHS mental health and addiction services, rough sleeping services, the Safer Business Network, Brixton Business Improvement District and ACTION on ASB! came together to agree on new ways to collaborate to improve safety in Brixton. Really significant step forward in making change happen!

A number of people have been asking if Action on ASB! is affiliated with the group Assemble Brixton. We are not affiliated with them and not working with them in any capacity. Action on ASB! remains an apolitical, community-led group, for people who live and work locally in Brixton.

The UK has deployed the world’s first detection dogs trained to identify deadly nitazenes and fentanyl at border crossings.

This matters locally - nitazenes and fentanyl are present in Brixton’s drug supply. These substances can be 50-500 times more potent than he**in and have caused over 750 UK deaths since June 2023.

The dogs are screening postal items, cargo and deliveries to stop these dangerous drugs reaching our communities. It’s a significant step in tackling the supply fuelling addiction and harm.

Call 999 if you see someone with a
- fentanyl fold
- slow/shallow breathing
- bluish/greyish lips and complexion
- passing out
- coma
