The Silver Line

The Silver Line The Silver Line is the UK’s only free, confidential, 24-hour helpline for older people, always open when other services are closed.

The Silver Line aims to provide advice, information and friendship to isolated and vulnerable older people across the UK. The Voluntary and statutory sectors offering care and protection of older people are fragmented services can be hard for individuals to access. The Silver Line Helpline will not replicate their excellent work but will refer older people to groups and organisations active in the

ir community as well as provide a unique telephone befriending service, staffed by trained volunteers. We aim to be the single, simple telephone number for older people seeking help, and an umbrella organisation for all those working in this sector.

Our Story

The Silver Line is a national charity dedicated to tackling the epidemic of loneliness which older people in the UK are facing.

Founded in 2013 by broadcaster and journalist Dame Esther, who had herself experienced intense loneliness following the loss of her husband, the charity runs the only free, confidential helpline specifically for lonely and isolated older people which is open 24/7, 365 days a year.

The Silver Line provides three functions to support older people:

• a 24-hour helpline which is available 365 days a year and offers information, signposting, advice, and a place to talk
