The heatwave is here. Many of us feel it on busy streets, packed trains, stuffy buses, and in our homes at night.
But for people sleeping rough, extreme heat is more than an inconvenience – it’s a health risk.
Last autumn, almost 4,800 people were sleeping rough across England – a record high and 171% higher than in 2010. With no shade, no cool water, and nowhere to escape the heat, hot weather can quickly become dangerous.
This summer, we’re thinking of the people we support, and of everyone experiencing homelessness during the heatwave.
If you’re worried about someone sleeping rough who appears unwell or in distress, call 999. If they need support, you can also alert local outreach services through StreetLink.
