"Every day it becomes more obvious that the capitalist system cannot solve our problems. But what kind of system change could work?"

The latest book of MayFly "System Change for a Liveable Future" by Terry Leahy explores our options. "How we got into the mess we face now. Why a system based on money is not an option. How the gift economy would work. Problems with common proposals for system change—democratic socialism and the steady state economy. The transition to the gift economy." ... and more!

The book is available for download on our website as a free PDF. As a non-profit organisation, we rely on donations - if you'd like to contribute you can do so on our website: mayflybooks.org

Check out Mayfly's latest title -> "A Climate Agenda for System Change: From Theory to Social Transformation" edited by Diana Stuart, Brian Petersen, and Ryan Gunderson:

https://mayflybooks.org/climate-agenda-for-system-change/

While calls for “system change” to address the climate crisis have become more common, it is important to identify what system change should entail and why. This book examines what a climate agenda for system change might include and why these policies and programs are critical to minimising global warming and enhancing social well-being. While our current trajectory involves maintaining the status quo and relying on future technologies to mitigate climate change, a system-changing agenda has the potential to more rapidly, effectively, and justly minimize warming. Drawing from ecosocialism and degrowth, the authors identify key agenda items and why they should be prioritized. The book then focuses on how system change might take place, identifying obstacles and challenges, and motivations for persevering despite opposition.

Endorsements:
“This book offers plausible pathways and tools for ecosocialist degrowth. A must-read by anyone interested in radical alternatives to the current impasse.” – Giorgos Kallis, ICREA professor, ICTA-UAB, Barcelona and author of In Defense of Degrowth

“This excellent book lays a foundation for a positive social transformation in the age of ecological crisis. The future is degrowth communism.” – Kohei Saito, Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo and author of Marx in the Anthropocene: Towards the Idea of Degrowth Communism

We are very excited to launch the new book by Valerie H. Hobbs – "No Love in War: A Story of Christian Nationalism": https://mayflybooks.org/no-love-in-war/

In this auto-ethnography, Hobbs details her life as a survivor of the dominionist world. Exposing the deep-seated violence of this community dominated by war-lusty men, this book is a declaration of love – to everyone who suffers from those who relentlessly pursue war at home and beyond.

Check out Mayfly's latest title (launching today) -> "Convivial Conservation: From Principles to Practice" edited by Kate Massarella, Judith E. Krauss, Wilhelm A. Kiwango and Robert Fletcher: https://mayflybooks.org/convivial-conservation/

Drawing on a rich mix of perspectives and case studies centring on human-wildlife interactions, the authors demonstrate the potential for transformation in biodiversity conservation that supports human-wildlife coexistence.

Endorsements:
“A wide-ranging, exciting tour through the grounded and conceptual alternatives to colonial, top-down, authoritarian conservation that has dominated for far too long. The essays in this volume show not only what is possible for human-wildlife co-existence, but what is indeed already being demonstrated.” - Ashish Kothari, co-author with A. Shrivastava of Churning the Earth: The Making of Global India

“This is an important book which sets a challenge for mainstream conservation and also offers a new pathway via the approach of convivial conservation. The book develops the theoretical approach and explores practical examples of living with wildlife from all over the world. As such it is a tour de force and the best place to start understanding a radical new model for successful conservation.” - Professor Rosaleen Duffy, Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Sheffield
