💛 HIMfertility has found a new home with The Fertility Alliance.

Some of you may already know our team from our many years at We were closely involved in the Rhod Gilbert campaign and in bringing HIMfertility into FNUK. We understand just how important this community is for men and couples navigating fertility challenges.

Right now, we're working behind the scenes to transition all support groups across and ensure everything continues smoothly. Thank you for your patience, support and kindness while we get everything settled.

Most importantly, the support remains here for you.

If you need anything, have any questions, or simply want to check in, please send us a message or email me directly at [email protected]

We're looking forward to continuing this journey together. 💙

💙 Welcome Yiannis Christodoulou to The Fertility Alliance family!

We are delighted to welcome Yiannis as our new Ambassador.

A GB triathlete, NHS employee and passionate advocate, Yiannis brings resilience, determination and a powerful personal perspective to our work.

After years of trying to start a family, Yiannis and his wife Melanie faced fertility investigations, IVF treatment and the emotional challenges that so many people experience on their fertility journey. Following unsuccessful treatment, Yiannis also experienced significant mental health challenges and chose to speak openly about the impact infertility can have on individuals and couples.

Now, he is using his voice to help break the silence around infertility and remind others that fertility challenges can affect anyone regardless of age, fitness or lifestyle.

💙 "Fertility is a cause close to my heart. I want to help raise awareness of fertility issues, which are still not talked about enough, and show that even healthy and fit individuals can be affected."

We are incredibly grateful to have Yiannis join The Fertility Alliance family and look forward to working together to raise awareness, support patients and ensure more people feel seen, heard and understood.

👏 Please join us in giving Yiannis a warm welcome!

IVF innovation can’t move forward unless patients move with it.

A new study from U‑Ploid Biotechnologies and The Fertility Alliance asked people with lived IVF experience what patient‑centred clinical trials should actually look like.

✨ 100% say IVF is emotionally & physically demanding
✨ 94% say it’s a financial strain
✨ 74% would try a new treatment if backed by evidence
✨ 69% won’t join a study with no chance of pregnancy
✨ Only 37% would undergo an extra egg collection without clear benefit

Patients aren’t asking for shortcuts.
They’re asking for credibility, transparency and respect.

To truly innovate, clinics and researchers must:

💚 Protect the chance of pregnancy
💚 Minimise avoidable burden
💚 Use clear, accessible e‑consent
💚 Embed emotional support every cycle
💚 Co‑produce protocols with patient groups
💚 Build real‑time feedback loops

More women are turning to social media to find s***m donors, but unregulated donation carries serious risks.

A BBC Wales investigation was able to buy a £100 next‑day s***m delivery from an unregulated donor, sent in a box chilled with tomato passata.
A licensed clinic later confirmed the sample was unusable.

Clare Ettinghausen from the HFEA described the situation as shocking and highlighted that processing or distributing s***m without a licence is against UK law. She also raised concerns about women’s safety and the role of social media platforms in enabling unregulated donation.

Unregulated donation means:
• No guaranteed health or genetic screening
• No legal clarity for parents or donors
• No limits on donor numbers
• Increased risk of coercion or exploitation

The HFEA has now published:
🔗 https://www.hfea.gov.uk/about-us/news-and-press-releases/2026/hfea-statement-the-risks-of-unregulated-s***m-donation/

These explain the law, the risks, and what people should consider before seeking a donor outside a licensed clinic.

Everyone deserves safe, regulated fertility care.

What’s happening in Kent is appalling and deeply worrying for anyone who believes in fair, evidence‑based access to NHS fertility care.

A Reform UK councillor has publicly backed cuts to NHS‑funded IVF, saying patients should “cut their garment according to their cloth.”

Responding to Cllr Porter’s remarks, Antony Hook, Lib Dem Leader of the Opposition at KCC, called the comments “utterly outrageous.”

Meanwhile, the reality for people in Kent and Medway is this:

❌ IVF must now start before 38, not 40
❌ NHS‑funded cycles cut from two to one
❌ Embryo transfers halved from four to two

These changes came into effect from April and have already caused widespread anger among patients who simply want a fair chance to build a family.

Fertility treatment isn’t a luxury. It’s healthcare. And decisions like this push people into debt, delay treatment, and worsen health inequalities.

03/06/2026

Thank you to Navendu Mishra, MP for raising Greater Manchester ICB’s decision to reduce NHS IVF provision to one cycle during the Health Bill debate on the 1st June.

This decision goes against the findings of the public consultation Manchester ICB carried out and disregards NICE Guidelines recommending three full cycles. We’re grateful to everyone who continues to speak up for fair, evidence‑based access to fertility treatment.

We will continue our work to challenge these unjustified decisions and push for fair, consistent fertility provision.

💜 Volunteers’ Week 2026
This week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who give their time, care, and expertise to make fertility support fairer and more accessible for everyone.

To our volunteers, Trustees, Advisory Board members, People Panel, Patrons, and Ambassadors, thank you for sharing your voices, your compassion, and your commitment to change.

You are the heart of The Fertility Alliance.

Together, we’re building a community where no one faces fertility struggles alone. 💫

💙 We’re pleased to share that UK fertility support groups, currently hosted by Fertility Network UK, will soon be hosted by The Fertility Alliance.

We feel genuinely privileged to be taking on this important support for the community.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be working closely together to ensure a smooth transition and put all the necessary arrangements in place. During this time, support groups will continue with Fertility Network UK as normal while preparations are underway.

Both organisations share a deep commitment to providing safe, welcoming and compassionate spaces for everyone affected by fertility challenges. We’re hopeful and excited about what this next chapter will bring.

England’s birth rate is falling and yet we still don’t fund the three full IVF cycles recommended by NICE.

The latest figures released show the provisional total fertility rate in England and Wales dropped to 1.39 in 2025, down from 1.41 in 2024.

For a population to remain stable (without migration), the rate needs to be around 2.1.

We are moving further away from that, while thousands of people who need medical help to conceive are offered just one funded cycle, depending on where they live.

This isn’t just a statistic. It’s a reflection of:

• people delaying treatment because they can’t afford it
• couples facing impossible choices
• the emotional and financial strain of trying to build a family.

And it raises a difficult question: How can we talk about declining birth rates without addressing the barriers to fertility treatment?

At The Fertility Alliance, we believe in:
• Fair access to treatment
• Following NICE guidance
• Supporting people, not postcode lotteries

If we want to support future generations, we must support the people trying to create them today.
