Breaking The Cycle is an early intervention mentoring programme that offers a targeted approach to prevent and reduce violence among young people.

We create a safe and engaging space through active listening and meaningful conversations, helping young people feel heard, supported, and understood.

Together with the young people, we set clear goals to build confidence, improve behaviour and attitude, and support young people to take ownership of their challenges, develop practical solutions, and make informed choices.

With the support of families, schools, and community partners, we address the wider challenges young people face, from school absence to vulnerability to exploitation, ensuring they are surrounded by a strong, consistent network.

As progress is made, achievements are recognised and plans are put in place, ensuring every young person leaves with the tools, resilience, and confidence to move forward.

The Breaking The Cycle Programme is funded by Islamic Relief UK, Muslim Aid and Al-Khair Foundation and delivered alongside our partners Dream Chaser Youth Club and West Bowling Youth Initiative

For our Breaking The Cycle mentors, every day goes beyond guidance, it’s also showing up consistently and helping young people take positive steps forward.

Quote from our Mentor:
“It’s breaking the ice, cracking the odd joke, helping the young person to come out of their shell and express themselves. It’s checking in on their mental health and physical wellbeing.”

That balance of humour, honesty, and care reflects what we do across BTC, providing young people with personalised mentoring, supporting families through workshops, and offering trips and activities that give young people a sense of achievement and belonging.

The impact speaks for itself, we’ve seen better attendance and engagement, smarter decision-making, progress towards personal goals with young people developing perseverance and emotional regulation.

At Breaking The Cycle, mentors like this turn belief into action, helping young people shift their mindset, reshape their narrative, and unlock their full potential.

Our Breaking the Cycle (BTC) programme focuses on early support for young people who may be facing challenges at home, in school, or within their communities.

Through trusted 1:1 mentoring sessions, safe spaces, family support, and meaningful experiences, we help young people build confidence, resilience, and direction at a critical stage in their lives.

Delivered in close partnership with local schools, social services, youth justice teams, and Dream Chaser Youth Club, the programme is rooted in prevention and early support.

We’re proud that Breaking the Cycle was shortlisted in the Early Intervention category at the 2025 Children & Young People Now Awards, following our third consecutive shortlisting since 2023, reinforcing the impact and value of our work across the region.

From youth activities, training and family workshops to excursions and enrichment activities, BTC creates safe opportunities for growth, connection, and lasting change.

Celebrating the month of Ramadan at our Girls Youth Space we had a beautiful bring-and-share Iftar, with over 30 girls coming together for a warm evening.

Gathered at the table with a variety of dishes they had brought in, the room was filled with conversation, reflecting the spirit of Ramadan and a shared community.

We’re grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to making the evening so memorable 🤍

In response to a recent social media trend circulating on platforms like TikTok and Snapchat, which has seen schools divided into “red” and “blue” groups and references to a so-called “Tower Hamlets School War” among pupils in Years 7–10, Osmani Trust through the MyEnds Better Bethnal Green programme led a coordinated, consortium-wide Detached & Outreach response across Tower Hamlets last week.

Our Detached Team were out in key areas identified for increased anti-social behaviour, working alongside Tower Hamlets Council Youth Service, Schools, local partners, and the Tower Hamlets Police Service who were also on patrol.

This increased detached youth work has been delivered through strong partnership collaboration, ensuring a joined-up and responsive approach.

Our team has been engaging directly with young people offering guidance, listening to concerns, challenging harmful narratives, and promoting positive alternatives to prevent escalation.

We remain committed to early intervention, empowering young people, and strengthening safety across our community through sustained partnership and support.

'The BBG programme helped me feel more confident and supported, I’m better at handling situations and communicating. It’s kept me motivated, made things feel less stressful, and helped me understand my goals more.” - IM, Young Person, Bethnal Green.

Every week through the MyEnds Better Bethnal Green interventions, young people in our hyper local neighbourhoods are connecting with mentors, building confidence, and making meaningful changes in their lives.

With our amazing partners, we’re continuing to listen, learn, and support where it’s needed most.

MyEnds tackles violence & exploitation in 11 London areas including Tower Hamlets, delivering various interventions to help keep young people safe.

Following its launch in January 2024, the Positive Futures team worked closely with Schools, Community Organisations and PRUs in Newham and Barking & Dagenham to support young people at risk of exclusion and harm.

'“The mentors from the Osmani Trust have had a significant impact with their mentees and the wider school community. The mentors quickly built rapport with our young people and developed positive relationships with them.” – School Referrer

Throughout the programme, our mentors made meaningful connections, developed positive relationships, and created safe spaces for students to open up about the issues that mattered most to them.

“The students felt able to open up to their mentors and have frank conversations with a trusted adult about issues that concerned them… The mentors were reliable, personable, professional and they swiftly became part of our team.” - Teacher

The Positive Futures team believed that change begins with trust. Through consistent 1:1 mentoring, we helped young people feel heard and supported, building stronger relationships between schools, families, and communities.

As we reflect on the programme, we’re proud of the impact it made and grateful to the schools, local authority, partners, staff, and young people who were part of this amazing journey.

This compilation captures just some of those moments.
