Nepal Village Foundation Improving the livelihoods of the poorest of the poor and Dalit in rural villages of Nepal

Nepal Village Foundation (NVF) is a UK-based grassroots organisation and works very closely with Dalit and the poorest of the poor in rural villages of Nepal. We work with them to improve their wellbeing by enabling access to education and learning. We will strengthen villages to enable change to happen in an enduring way so they can determine their own futures and make good use of the resources available to them.

One of the resources that NVF funds is a bicycle for each new student that joins the programme. In 2024/25, we funded 12 new bicycles. These bicycles are extremely important in allowing the women and girls to get to school safely and quickly. They continue to contribute towards the increase in attendance we have seen from 2024 to now (see table on picture 3). School attendance is vitally important for these women and girls as it will ‘prevent school drop-out and delay teenage marriage’ (NVF, 2025)

These pictures taken recently show the students with their bicycles. Hamro Samaj Nepal, our partner organisation, sources the bikes with our funding and their name is written on each bicycle 🚲

8th March is International Women's Day.

The official UN theme for 2026 is:
“Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls”,
emphasizing the dismantling of structural barriers, discriminatory laws, and harmful social norms that limit women’s access to justice and equal rights.

Alongside this, the global International Women's Day campaign “Give to Gain” encourages us to GIVE in whatever way we can, through mentorship, education, leadership opportunities, and donations, highlighting that society as a whole will GAIN by empowering women.

If you can help in any way to support NVF's work in helping girls in rural Nepal to get access to education, please visit our website

Today we’re celebrating International Day of Women and Girls in Science 🧬
In Nepal, the path to a science career isn’t just steep - it’s often blocked.
Despite the brilliance of our girls, a massive “leaky pipeline” means women make up only 7.8% of researchers in the country. From the digital divide (only 41% have internet access) to social norms that prioritise domestic roles, the barriers are real.
Science shouldn’t be a privilege of gender or geography. It’s time to bridge the gap and ensure every girl from Kathmandu to Karnali has the tools, the tech, and the seat at the table she deserves.

16th October 2025, Mahadewa Municipality Saptari District, Nepal

CEO and Co-founder Krit Sharma (pictured) conducted a meeting with some of the young women who have already been supported by NVF.
Krit described the meeting as an ‘opportunity to explore how the education they received has impacted their life’. They also shared their educational and career achievements, struggles and aspirations - all of which are being used to advise future NVF work.

~£20/month (£250 annually) keeps one girl in higher secondary school for a year
£30/month (£360 annually) pays to provide a three-day capacity development training course for twelve outreach workers to manage the projects.
£125/month (£1500 annually) pays a year’s wages of one full time project assistant in Nepal who monitors the project and reports to us regularly.
