PRSSV Institute of Performing Arts and Heritage

PRSSV Institute of Performing Arts and Heritage PRSSV along with its subsidiary trust Pandit Ram Sahai Foundation is a global organisation with branches in India, Canada and the USA.

Founded by Pandit Sharda Sahai and Dr. Frances Shepherd, the Pandit Ram Sahai Sangit Vidyalaya (PRSSV) is a charitable trust that seeks to give people of all walks of life a chance to experience and learn the performing arts of India. In 1987, Pandit Sharda Sahai and Dr Frances Shepherd founded the Pandit Ram Sahai Sangit Vidyalaya (PRSSV), a charitable trust that seeks to give people of all walks

of life a chance to experience and learn the performing arts of India. PRSSV was named after one of the most innovative Indian musicians of the 18th century whose art is now practiced by amateur and professional musicians all over the world. The aim of the trust is to serve a culturally diverse clientele through projects in the performing arts of India and the performing arts of other parts of the world, which promote and encourage activities for the betterment of education and understanding in the wider community. Much of the work of the trust so far has centred on developing activities relating to Indian music and dance, which draw on the considerable expertise available to it. These activities are delivered through its Institute of Indian Music and Dance (IIM&D), and its examinations board, Sangit Examinations, and mostly serve the local community of West London. These current activities include the provision of:

access to recognized qualifications;
vocal, dance and tabla training;
NVQ assessors;
in-service training of kathak teachers with our Keyworker;
training in arts administration for volunteers;
concerts; and
theme based projects and residencies for schools. Volunteers run the activities of the trust. This reliance on volunteers is part of a strategy to involve local people and increase their feelings of ownership. Due to the initial location of the activities in West London volunteers have been drawn mostly from the Indian community with a very small percentage from other communities.

Our annual music and dance showcase, Parampara 2026, took place on Sunday 15th March 2026 at Harrow Arts Centre, in the presence of the Mayor of Harrow.

Today marks the birthday of our Founder Pandit Sharda Sahai who would have been 91. Parampara continues to celebrate his life and legacy

Parampara is a showcase that includes other talented students in the UK. We will be posting more about this, with students performing classical vocal, bansuri, tabla ensembles, and Kathak dance, blending both classical and contemporary traditions.

For over 37 years, PRSSV has worked to promote Indian classical music within UK education.

Thank you to all those involved for making it such fabulous night!

Join PRSSV at the Marigold Festival over the coming weeks for Tabla experiences, exhibition and hear imaginative talks. We look forward to seeing you there, at the "Palaces of Palaces - Osterley House."

OSTERLEY HOUSE - NATIONAL TRUST
"Osterley's Marigold Festival will run from 22nd October 2025 to 4th January 2026 and will be our cornerstone of the winter programming over that time, running from Diwali and continuing through December. Diwali is the five-day Festival of Lights, celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and some Buddhists across the world. A festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil, and light over darkness.

The Marigold Festival at Osterley is a celebration for everyone to enjoy and participate in, and we are involving local community groups to help us create it. Much like the National Trust's Blossom Festival in the Spring, inspired by cherry blossom season (Sakura) in Japan, the Marigold Festival is specific to Osterley as a place.

In collaboration with the PRSSV Institute of Performing Arts and Heritage, we will be focusing on exploring classical Indian music in the Yellow Breakfast Room, where music was traditionally played in Osterley House. The Entrance Hall will be decorated with a community-designed Rangoli pattern to mirror architect Robert Adam's floor design, and projected light will bring the space to life. On the 25th October our Diwali celebrations will be supported by the BAPS West London, with an Annakut food offering, and Aarti ceremonies during the day in the Entrance Hall."
