Sight Action Havering have recently help fund a project with the Library service to provide more braille and large print books to children inthe Borough with a vision impairment and have also provided a device to make labelling items easier either with braille or audio: we are proud to have been able to help and look forward to working with the children's specialist team and the library in the months to come! The money was raised by our Chairman Mike Brace CBE DL undertaking various talks in the Borough and passing the generous donations via Sight Action to purchase and donating the books and devices:

Only two weeks to go until the Deafblind UK Conference 2026, and we're excited to spotlight another of our inspiring sessions. 🚨

How can tactile learning materials do more than simply provide access?

We're delighted to welcome Dr Namita Jacob and Teresa Anthony from Chetana Trust, who will explore how thoughtful tactile design can inspire curiosity, motivation and independent learning for people with sensory loss.

Their session, ‘Designing Beyond Function: Aesthetic and Motivational Frameworks for Tactile Learning Materials’, will examine how texture, aesthetics and sensory engagement can create richer, more meaningful learning experiences.

From social-haptic communication to experiencing music through vibration, their session will demonstrate how touch can support communication, connection and participation in powerful and meaningful ways.
