Royal Trinity Hospice

Royal Trinity Hospice Supporting people in central and south west London to live and die well.

Royal Trinity Hospice cares for people living with progressive, life-limiting illnesses and their families across central and southwest London. Sometimes people think that by ‘end of life’ we mean the last few weeks of a person’s life. This simply isn’t the case – we encourage early referrals so that we can get to know our patients as individuals and help them to live life to the full for whatever

time is left – that might be a year or more, months or weeks. Our services include nursing and medical care, emotional and practical support, welfare advice, occupational and physiotherapy, complementary therapies, spiritual care and creative activities. We care for people in their own homes and through non-residential and inpatient services in modern, welcoming facilities at our Clapham centre. So that more people in our community have a better end of life experience, we share our specialist skills through education and support for other care providers, such as GPs, district nurses, hospitals and care homes. Our patient and family services are free but we receive around a quarter of our income from the NHS. This means we rely on the support of our local community to raise over £11 million each year.

We’ve recently introduced new aromatherapy diffusers in every room on our inpatient unit, offering a choice of scents to help create a more comfortable, calming environment.

Some of the oils we use include:
• Lavender – to encourage relaxation and restful sleep
• Mandarin & lemon – to gently lift mood
• Sweet marjoram – to help ease agitation
• Eucalyptus – for a fresh, clearing scent
• Peppermint, tea tree & lemon – often used to freshen the room

Our patients (and staff!) already love them 💜

Aromatherapy can help shape the atmosphere of a room, whether that’s creating a calm space for rest or bringing a little brightness during the day.

It’s just one of the many ways we care for the whole person, not just their medical needs, but their comfort, wellbeing and environment too.

"So many patients come from hospitals where they haven't seen the outdoors for months.

“They come here and they are so emotional with the fact that they can just see greenery and it's so special."

Emily is one of our dedicated nurses who provides our personal, dignified, but most importantly, free care at Trinity.

The funding Trinity receives from the NHS doesn’t cover the full cost of our care, and the need for our services is increasing.

If you are able to support us, no matter the amount, you will be helping us to be there for more people.

“The Summer Solstice event that my late mum’s friend and I attended was so meaningful that the following morning I felt inspired to write a poem, as a way of saying thank you.”

Nasima, who writes under the pen name Sheema Huq, is a poet in her spare time and kindly wrote this poem after attending our annual remembrance event last year, Summer Solstice.

Please swipe to the next images in this post to read Sheema’s poem ➡️

Our Summer Solstice event is back this year on Sunday 21 June.
This special free event is open to everyone to remember those who brought colour to our lives. If you would like to attend, you can click the link below and register ⬇️
