One sold out gig, a solid Unite bloc, and thousands out on the streets of East London: we stood together for unity over division, and did the legacy of Cable Street proud. ✊

The Battle shows what can happen when working class people and communities stand together. That spirit remains just as important today.

They care for a living, but do their bosses care about them?

Health visitors and care navigators employed by Tower Hamlets GP Care Group (THGPCG) have had enough of being asked to work more for less pay, juggling multiple jobs to make ends meet, and not knowing how much they'll be paid at the end of every month.

Today they took to the picket line for the start of three days of strike action. ✊🏽

They want other health workers to take inspiration from their dispute, and even have a message for the Unite Wales Cwm Taf strikers! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Did you see our incredible Battle of Cable Street stained glass window at St George in the East Church, designed and developed by Keira McLean and Jamie-Max Cartoons, this weekend?

The church belongs to the radical tradition of Christian socialism and these amazing artists created something really unique to mark 90 years since the Battle of Cable Street, when the working class of East London united and drove back Mosley and his fascist, black-shirt thugs.

What an incredible way to commemorate it.

This weekend marks ninety years since workers of all faiths and none marched together to defend the Jewish East End of London.

Inspired by the fight against fascism in Spain, they said ‘they shall not pass’, and Oswald Mosley’s mob didn’t. ✊

We’ll let Leon Silver, a president of the former East London Central Synagogue, have the final word on the significance of Cable Street for our movement.

A dozen civil servants who work as drivers within the Ministry of Defence (MoD) have renewed their strike action over workplace treatment, management practices and leadership accountability.

Strikes will now take place on 6 and 7 October and a further wave of a strike action on 13 and 14 October 2026. There will be picket lines outside the MoD Main Building in Westminster on all strike days from 09:30 until 13:00.

Don't mess with health visitors! 👊🏽

Earlier in the year, health visitors and support staff employed by Tower Hamlets GP Care Group (THGPCG) started mobilising against plans to cut staffing levels to dangerous levels.

They saw off attempts to introduce redundancies that would have left remaining staff struggling with unimaginable workloads, in a borough with a huge need for the care they provide.

Now they're organising to ensure that support staff contracts fully align with NHS Agenda for Change pay, terms and conditions, and health visitors are on the correct pay band for the work that they do. Three days of strike action begin on Tuesday 6 October.

They've won before, and they can win again! 💪🏽

With inflation at 3.1%, could you take a pay cut of 13.5%? 📉

The Forest School in Snaresbrook charges secondary fees of over £10,000 a term, but is cutting the contract for the workers who keep students fed and facilities safe and clean by seven weeks.

That means that staff earning below the London Living Wage will see significantly less money in their pocket each year, while the school's headteacher takes home at least £300,000 annually.

🗣️ Sharon Graham - General Secretary, Unite the Union: "Unite will never stand for our members having a pay cut. They are being treated disgracefully and have our full support during this dispute."

The Battle of Cable Street isn’t just embedded in the social and political history of our movement: for many of us it’s personal, too.

Tower Hamlets Trades Council secretary, antifascist and housing activist Glyn Robbins even held his civil partnership ceremony reception by the mural!

For the ninetieth anniversary of Cable Street, we’re honouring the strong, organised working-class movement that defended the diverse and largely Jewish East End from fascism and hate. We’ll celebrate their solidarity through collective joy.
