Music, poetry, workshops, theatre, spoken word, comedy as well as hosting the Artists Trail with over 190 visual artists each year. Since 2009, as Sydenham Arts Festival, this community arts organisation has staged six annual festivals in July - embracing every art form and providing a wide range of exciting arts events and activities for new and existing audiences in the southern part of Lewisham
borough. It is committed to providing a platform for emerging, local artists as well as bringing high-quality, established artists to the area. Alongside its event programme it has regularly run free participatory workshops, partnered with local schools and colleges on original projects and provided mentoring for young actors, singers, musicians, playwrights and poets. Now as Sydenham Arts, the company’s ambitions include increasing its range of educational activities, staging themed ‘mini-festivals’ at seasonal times of the year, and developing a permanent performance and exhibition space in Sydenham. It also hopes to partner with other festivals and similar arts organisations in the south-east London area - to develop in the long-term an arts network promoting innovation and originality in arts programming across the area.
