Thank you to everyone who has donated or shared our campaign so far. Every contribution is helping more young people experience the confidence, creativity and community that music at PAM provides. 💙

We recently had the chance to welcome our neighbour, acclaimed cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, to Pembroke Academy of Music (PAM), where he met some of our talented young musicians.

Young people can flourish when they have the opportunity to learn music. The chance to grow, to challenge, and express themselves.

Through his own journey as a musician, Sheku understands the importance of making sure young people in his local community have access to music education and the chance to develop their skills.

We were delighted to hear him share his thoughts on PAM, and we are so grateful for his support as we work to give more young people the opportunity to learn and flourish through music.

🎶 Thank you to everyone who has supported our Pembroke Academy of Music (PAM) crowdfunding campaign so far!

We're now aiming for our next milestone of £1,000. Once we reach it, our generous match funder will donate a further £1,000, taking us straight to £2,000 and giving our campaign a huge boost.

Every donation, big or small, helps us get one step closer to securing the future of PAM. Sharing our campaign is another great way to support us.

Together, we can keep music making accessible for local young people.

🎵 A Future for PAM 🎵

We’re launching a crowdfunding campaign to help secure the future of Pembroke Academy of Music (PAM).

For years, PAM has helped young people discover music, build confidence, and build community through creativity. However, rising costs and a challenging fundraising environment mean we can no longer sustain our current model.

We now need your support to keep PAM going.

Every donation, big or small, will be matched by our match funder (up to £1,000), doubling your impact and helping us reach our goal faster.

Sharing the campaign also makes a real difference.

Together we can ensure young people continue to have access to music education at PAM 🎶

Come along to the Pop-up Walworth Living Room at the Master’s Lodge!

The Walworth Living Room (WLR) is a third community space run by Pembroke House, a charity founded by Pembroke College graduates in 1885 as part of the settlement movement, located in Walworth, South East London. The WLR is a centre for social action where we work to build neighbourhood and community power through social interactions; acknowledging its importance in connecting ‘neighbourhood to nation’.

We will have a carousel of three events inspired by some of our past and ongoing projects for everyone to participate in, these include:

🪡 ‘Mend and upcyling’ - a creative session, where you can mend, upcycle and make new items in a shared, welcoming space. Bring along any clothes, small item fixes, jewellery, collage, crochet or knitting projects that you would like to work on!

🗣️Spanish-English exchange/Español–Inglés intercambio - a relaxed and friendly language exchange session practice Spanish or English by sharing in conversation over a cup of tea or coffee. No pressure or grammar drills, just conversation and connection.

🩻Community Health Mind Mapping - an ode to the Social Model of Health, a project in collaboration with Healing Justice Ldn and Walworth residents, which is about the power of social and community connections to improve our health. Answer some questions (through any form — drawings, writing etc) about community health.

You can sign up through the link in our bio. We will be having two 45 minute sessions; the first session will be from 2pm - 2:45pm and the second session will be from 3:15pm - 4pm.

We have limited tickets so sign up quickly to reserve a spot!

See you soon! Whilst you wait, please have a look at some of the photos of the Walworth Living Room that we all know and love 🧡

On Saturday 16th May, we opened our doors to celebrate ‘Becoming Neighbours: Stories of the Pembroke House Residency’ - a heritage project funded by 🏡

Over the past year, the project has explored connection: reconnecting with former residential volunteers who lived and volunteered in Walworth, collecting their stories with community researchers, and bringing local residents together through dinner table discussions about the past, present, and future of the Residency.

The Open House shared these stories through an audio and visual exhibition across Pembroke House and the Residency, alongside a panel discussion with the project team reflecting on key themes and future plans.

We also launched our publication which includes quotes, essays and reflections on our Residency and communal living

A huge thank you to , The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and National Lottery players for making this project possible 💛

As long-standing members of .uk on Wednesday 22nd April we were excited to take part in the Southwark assembly at All Saints Peckham. We were a part of a coalition of hundreds of community leaders who came together to make specific asks of the leaders of the three biggest political parties in Southwark.

Wednesday’s event wasn’t the start of the work - over the past four months Southwark Citizens have spoken to over 700 members, bringing together people from across our diverse community, and from different organisations.

As part of this process, we held a workshop at the Walworth Living Room in March to narrow down the challenges we heard into specific asks - and discussed our proposals with Council officers, NHS allies, and others to ensure they were realistic.

The asks were split into themes on Housing, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Work and Wages, Young People and Health.

Particularly relevant locally was the following ask: ‘Pilot improvements, repairs and maintenance in a block at the Aylesbury estate, working with health partners, King’s College London and Southwark Citizens to monitor impact on health and wellbeing.’

We look forward to supporting Southwark Citizens to hold politicians to account to deliver on badly needed repairs on the Aylesbury.
