Meet Charlotte. 💚
Charlotte is our Finance Assistant, creative, and rarely seen without a rainbow of colour and pattern, keeping operations running smoothly for the small team at Oakley House. But her connection with CASPA goes back much further than her role suggests.
As a child, she spotted an advert for CASPA's trampoline sessions and wanted to go. She assumed she wouldn't be eligible, as she hadn't yet received her autism diagnosis. Years later, in her early twenties, that diagnosis came. She went on to build a career she loved at a theatre, until the pandemic brought everything to a halt.
"The Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting closure of theatres brought this to an abrupt halt. The loss of both my employment and established routine had a significant impact on me, leaving me feeling uncertain about my future and lacking a sense of purpose."
Through Bromley Well, she found her way to a CASPA online session.
"CASPA provided a renewed sense of connection, belonging and community when I needed it most."
When restrictions lifted, she began attending CASPA's weekly clubs in person. When she returned to the theatre, she chose to stay connected by volunteering, because she wanted to give others what CASPA had given her.
"I wanted to help create the same sense of belonging and acceptance for other autistic people that I had experienced myself."
That volunteering journey led to a Trustee role, then office administration, then paid employment.
"Through volunteering, I gained confidence, developed new skills and became part of a community where I felt a genuine sense of belonging. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact."
