50 BLACK WOMEN.
60 YEARS OF CARNIVAL
50 DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES. 📸
Notting Hill Carnival is more than colour, costumes and music.
It is history.
It is culture.
It is resistance.
It is joy.
It is identity.
It is community.
This year, 50 Black female photographers came together with UKBFTOG to document the 60th anniversary of Notting Hill Carnival.
And what makes this collection so special is that no two photographers saw the day in quite the same way.
Some captured the costumes.
Some captured the movement.
Some focused on portraits.
Some looked for quiet moments amongst the crowds.
Some captured the people behind the scenes.
Together, their photographs tell a much bigger story.
There is power in who gets to hold the camera.
We’ve created a special news feature sharing their images, stories, experiences, tips and the photographers behind the photographs.
And honestly… we want you to meet them. ❤️
