A fascinating discovery by our supporter Paul, a male stag beetle pupa! 🪲

We recommend leaving stag beetle pupae undisturbed in the soil, where they can develop safely and naturally. This one looks perfectly healthy and should emerge soon, but unfortunately, the debris it’s currently lying on could interfere with the proper development of its wings.

Late summer fruit can be an important food source for wildlife 🍎 If you have fruit trees, leaving a few windfalls on the ground can help insects, birds and mammals. Just move any rotting fruit away from paths or seating areas, and leave a small amount in a quiet corner for wildlife to find.

In north-east India, roads cut through important forest habitat, breaking up the canopy that primates and other animals need to move safely.

With support from PTES, our Conservation Partner Dr Jihosuo Biswas and his team are restoring these connections using artificial canopy bridges for threatened golden langurs, Hoolock gibbons and other wildlife.

Along National Highway-315A, which cuts through Dehing Patkai National Park, the team identified 22 potential bridge sites and developed two designs for the gibbons and other animals that travel through the forest canopy. Early camera-trap monitoring has already recorded Assamese macaques, palm civets and squirrels using some of the bridges.

Thanks to your donations, the team has also repaired and installed crossings for golden langurs, planted 500 saplings to restore natural canopy links, and reached more than 1,100 students through conservation education.

At Briddlesford Woods, our nature reserve on the Isle of Wight, hazel dormice and red squirrels live side by side. It’s one of the last places in the UK where they’re still found together.

Look more closely and the woods are full of life, from rare bats and barn owls to badgers, butterflies and native wildflowers. With so much woodland lost or fragmented across the UK, places like Briddlesford are especially precious. Careful management helps keep the woods varied, with old trees, dense undergrowth, sunny glades, open rides and quiet corners for different species to feed, shelter and breed.

Your support could help us care for this special reserve, including coppicing hazel for dormice, planting hedgerows for bats to navigate and feed along and maintaining safe routes through the trees for red squirrels.
