African Cultural Association "AFRICAN CULTURAL ASSOCIATION"
PROMOTING AND CELEBRATING THE MULTICULTURAL DIVERSITY OF BRITISH SOCIETY.

BACKGROUND OF AFRICAN CULTURAL ASSOCIATION

The African Cultural Association was formed over 21 years ago and started as a result of group discussions among black and other ethnic minority students and families; many from African and Caribbean countries. The discussions included various problems that individuals face on a daily basis many of them having no idea of finding ways to resolve or ease t

heir problems. These issues consisted mainly of immigration, housing, money matters, racial harassment, welfare benefit, family disputes and consumer problems. These situations often tended to interfere with the majority of students’ education and their family and home living. This motivated the idea of creating a group to enable easy access of information, for people going through the above difficulties. We were able to help direct individuals, students and their families alike to numerous authorities to help solve their issues. However, many of the people being referred to the different authorities were not familiar with the system and could not understand the processes; they were also very uncomfortable sharing their problems with the officials and authorities. These matters then prompted us further to build on a group which included qualified Lawyers, Health Personnel, Social Services Personnel, Educationists, Teachers and Administrators and later formed a non-profit making organisation, which is now a Registered Charity known as The African Cultural Association – Barnet.
