a District Councillor and South Oxfordshire’s River Thames Champion. A year-round river swimmer, Jo first became aware of the scandal of sewage�dumping in 2019.
The water industry has paid out over 53bn in dividends since privatisation and yet infrastructure is crumbling, and raw sewage was pumped into our waterways for more than 3.6m hours last year, a third of our drinking water is lost to water company leaks. Regulators have failed to enforce the law and now we are being asked to foot the bill – Thames Water has asked Ofwat to increase bills by 59% by 2030.
Jo has worked for Bathing Water Status along stretches of the River Thames, for the restoration of swimming areas in the Thames and for real time sewage alerts. https://www.windrushwasp.org/

The Mermaids - have been campaigning ever since for cleaner rivers, better access to our waterways, for the law to be enforced, and for an end to sewage pollution.
