Today REA chairman Alan Mockford met Alina Luts, founder of the Ukrainian Social Club Richmond and Hounslow, at Orleans House Gallery.
The Ukrainian Social Club supports Ukrainians who have made Richmond their home since 2022. It also raises money to send medical supplies and sports equipment for children to Lviv.
Alan & Alina talked about Konstanz's partnership with Berdychiv in Ukraine & the links which have already been formed between Richmond & Lviv.

Greetings from Lodi! 🇮🇹

Four members of the Whitton Photographic Club are in Lodi this week for the International Exhibition. It's always good to see Richmond people in other parts of Europe, cameras in hand.

On Sunday 4 October, our Chairman Alan Mockford attended the Service of Thanksgiving and Rededication to celebrate the Mayoral Year of Cllr Nancy Baldwin, Mayor of Richmond upon Thames, at St Mary's Parish Church, Twickenham.

One of the highlights was a performance on the bandura, the traditional Ukrainian string instrument, by Iryna Rodionova of the Bandura Music Academy. She played "Plyve Kacha", a folk melody that carries a deep meaning for every Ukrainian today. Alan was moved by how beautiful it sounded.

The moment has a special connection for us. Konstanz, one of Richmond's twin towns, is twinned with Berdychiv in Ukraine, so through our European partnerships Richmond has its own link to Ukraine too.

Have you ever heard the bandura played live? Tell us in the comments.

Have you ever wondered who keeps Richmond's friendships with Fontainebleau and Konstanz going?
It's the Richmond in Europe Association, a local group of volunteers. Through the year we meet at social events and cultural exchanges, from a summer cruise on the Thames aboard the Princess Freda to our Christmas Dinner. We also link local choirs, orchestras, schools and sports clubs with partners in Fontainebleau and Konstanz, from tennis and rowing to golf and polo.
Anyone with an interest in Europe can join. You don't need to live in the borough.
Membership is £10 a year, and free if you are under 25.
You can now apply online from your phone. The link is in the first comment 👇

Do you use Richmond Station? Then you've probably walked past all of this without noticing.
The station opened in 1937, designed in Art Deco style by the Southern Railway's chief architect, James Robb Scott. Its recent restoration brought back a lot of the original character, and the history display in the booking hall is well worth a few minutes of your time.
A few things we didn't know: the old mural advertised the Castle Brasserie at the Castle Hotel near Richmond Bridge. The original floor tiles survive in the north wing, which is now a gym. And the old station sign that once stood outside turned up at a sale, spent years at TfL's headquarters, and is now back on loan. Its other side is in a railway museum in Essex.
For us, the best part is above the exit: our twinning mural with Fontainebleau, Richmond and Konstanz. It's where we welcomed Cornelia Lindenau from Konstanz, before coffee by the river.
