Music lovers

One park. Three stages. A whole day of live performance. Music is at the heart of the EcoFair.

The Main Stage sits in Carshalton Park's wonderful natural open-air amphitheatre, showcasing an exciting mix of local and regional talent.

At the Music Café, live acoustic music comes with tea, coffee and homemade cake.

And amongst the trees, the Performing Arts Stage brings together music, performance and spoken word, with Sutton Writers joining us for the first time this year and Carshalton's own Cryer Folk taking over the programme from 4pm.

And here's the EcoFair twist: all three stages are powered by the sun.

Turn it up. The EcoFair Main Stage is back.

On Bank Holiday Monday 31 August, from 10.30am–8pm, the EcoFair takes over Carshalton Park for a full day of live music, food, drink, entertainment and more than 120 stalls. Check out the details at www.ecofair.uk.

And right at the heart of it is the Main Stage.

This isn't music tucked away in a marquee. The stage sits in Carshalton Park's spectacular natural open-air amphitheatre, where the grassy banks rise around the action and create one of the most distinctive places in the area to watch a band.

Grab your mates, find a spot on the hillside and settle in with some food and a drink from the bar — or head down towards the stage and get closer to the action.

Throughout the day we'll be cranking up rock, pop, indie, soul, blues and more, showcasing some fantastic local and regional talent. And there's one important difference from your average festival stage: the whole thing is powered by the sun.

Great bands. Cold beer. Open air. A natural amphitheatre. And a summer Bank Holiday stretching ahead of you.

Sounds like a pretty good way to spend a Monday. The EcoFair — Bank Holiday Monday 31 August, 10.30am–8pm, Carshalton Park, www.ecofair.uk

Make a date with the EcoFair this Bank Holiday Monday…

There are some summer days that are simply too good to spend at home.

On Bank Holiday Monday 31 August, from 10.30am–8pm, the EcoFair takes over Carshalton Park for a gloriously indulgent day of music, food, beautiful things, fascinating discoveries and good company. Find out more at www.ecofair.uk.

Imagine meeting your friends with the sound of live music drifting across the park. Wander together through more than 120 stalls, linger over beautiful handmade crafts, discover something irresistible from a local maker, then follow the delicious aromas until you find exactly what you fancy for lunch.

Later? Perhaps a glass from the bar while you listen to another band. Or disappear into the Music Café for tea and one of the WI’s wonderful homemade cakes. Explore the wellbeing activities, discover intriguing community and environmental stalls, or simply find a comfortable spot on the grass and settle down for a long overdue catch-up.

That’s the beauty of the EcoFair. There’s no right way to spend the day.

Come with the family. Gather a group of friends. Arrange to meet someone there. Or come on your own and surrender to curiosity — wander, browse, taste, listen and see where the day takes you.

Just don’t make too many plans for afterwards. You may find you’re having far too good a time to leave.

The conversations you didn’t know you were going to have…

The EcoFair returns to Carshalton Park on Bank Holiday Monday 31 August, from 10.30am–8pm. Find out more at www.ecofair.uk.

Among more than 120 stalls, three solar-powered stages, fabulous food and all the bustle of the EcoFair, there’s another attraction that’s rather harder to describe — the people you meet.

Wander through the park and you’ll encounter an extraordinary collection of local charities, voluntary organisations and community projects, staffed by people with stories to tell, ideas to share and an infectious enthusiasm for what they do.

Perhaps a conversation will introduce you to an activity you never knew existed. Maybe you’ll discover a cause that captures your imagination, somewhere you’d love to volunteer, a new group to join, or useful support for you or someone you know. Or perhaps you’ll simply meet someone fascinating and find yourself lingering at their stall far longer than you intended.

That’s part of the seduction of the EcoFair. Come without a plan. Wander. Talk. Ask questions. Follow your curiosity.

Because amongst all the music, food and entertainment, you might just stumble across a new interest, a new opportunity — or even some new friends.

More than 120 stalls. And you never quite know what might tempt you...

There’s something wonderfully seductive about wandering through the EcoFair with absolutely no idea what you’re going to discover next.

Perhaps it will be a beautiful handmade creation that catches your eye. An unusual plant you simply have to take home. Something delicious you hadn’t intended to buy. Or an intriguing conversation with a local artist, independent business, charity or voluntary group that leads you somewhere completely unexpected.

With more than 120 outdoor stalls, there’s plenty to explore — from artisan crafts, plants and food to fascinating demonstrations, community organisations and inspiring ideas for living a little greener.

So forget the shopping list. Wander. Browse. Taste. Talk. Linger. Let yourself be tempted. Because sometimes the best things you take home from the EcoFair are the things you never knew you were looking for.

Food worth arriving hungry for.

One of the great pleasures of the EcoFair is deciding what to eat next. Follow the aromas around Carshalton Park and you’ll find freshly prepared Nepalese, Moroccan and Caribbean food, plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices, sweet treats, ice cream and much more.

Then there are the Farmers’ Market producers, the bar, the pimm's stall, and the Music Café, where tea and one of the WI’s homemade cakes have become something of an EcoFair tradition. Come for lunch, linger over something delicious, and don’t be surprised if lunch quietly turns into afternoon tea.

Ever wondered what it’s like behind the scenes at the EcoFair? Come and join the team!

If you’re someone who loves organising things, working with people and seeing a big event come together, we’d love to have you with us. You don’t need any previous event experience — just some enthusiasm and a willingness to muck in with a friendly bunch of people.

The EcoFair takes place in Carshalton Park on Bank Holiday Monday 31 August, from 10.30am–8pm, but the fun behind the scenes starts earlier. From Saturday 29 August, we begin transforming the park: putting up marquees and signs, moving equipment, preparing the different areas and tackling the hundreds of little jobs that turn an empty park into the EcoFair.

On Monday itself, there are lots of ways to help. You could welcome visitors, steward one of the event areas, help people find their way around or lend a hand wherever things are busiest. You don't have to volunteer for the whole day — even a couple of hours makes a real difference, and you'll still have plenty of time to enjoy the music, food and atmosphere yourself.

And then on Tuesday 1 September, we do it all in reverse! There's equipment to pack away, litter to clear and a park to return to normal. It's busy, satisfying and surprisingly good fun when everyone's working together.

Volunteering at the EcoFair is sociable, active and a great way to meet new people. You'll get to see how one of Carshalton's biggest community events is put together, become part of the team that makes it happen and have the satisfaction of looking across a packed park on Monday and thinking: “I helped create this.”

So if you're good at organising, love getting involved, fancy trying something different or just want to meet some lovely new people, come and join us. Bring a friend if you like — or come on your own and you'll soon be part of the team. Email us on [email protected] and say hello..
