Our creative writing workshops came to an end this week and the final class was bittersweet with all attendees expressing how much they’d love it to continue. We’re already planning the next series for October. People brought their families along to hear their writing and read out what they’d created over the weeks. Workshop leader Emma was delighted with the response and the work created. Get in touch if you’d like to attend the next one.

Today, the Government has published a new Cross-Government Carers Action Plan, bringing together commitments across health and social care, welfare, work and education.

The Plan includes action on employment rights, carers' benefits, NHS services and better information for carers, alongside a commitment to annual reporting on progress.

While there is more to do, we hope this will lead to a well-funded National Carers Strategy that delivers lasting improvements for unpaid carers.

Your voice can help shape the future of Carer’s Allowance.

The Government is asking unpaid carers, people who are cared for, and carers’ organisations in England and Wales to share their experiences as part of a review of Carer’s Allowance. This is an important opportunity to influence changes that better reflect the realities of caring.

The review will consider issues including:
• The earnings limit cliff edge.
• Support for carers with fluctuating incomes.
• How Carer’s Allowance works alongside Universal Credit.
• The 21 hour study rule.
• Any other experiences or suggestions carers would like to share.

At Ealing Carers Partnership, we encourage carers to take part and make sure their voices are heard.

Carers UK will also be running a webinar and providing a briefing to support anyone who would like to respond. We’ll share more details as soon as they’re available.

The consultation closes on 18 August 2026. You can find out more and submit your views on the Government website.

Have your say:

This call for evidence is being administered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to gather information and views to build on the Department’s existing evidence. What we hear will help shape future thinking about how Carer’s Allowance can be modernised.
