The Rule of Law continues to be advanced in our schools!

On Tuesday, we launched a series of weekly school workshops at Hungerford Primary School, part of the The Bridge Trust Academy. Head of Public and Youth Engagement Programme, Ola Ugwu, and BIICL Ambassador, Rukevwe Otive-Igbuzor, had a fantastic time with the Year 6 students, focusing on 3 Rs - Rules, Rights and Responsibilities.

The limelight of the sessions was watching the brilliant debates on what the age of criminality should be in the UK. It was a joy to watch some budding parliamentarians and human rights lawyers emerge right before our eyes 😊

The students were quite engaging and are already looking forward to our next session after the half term, when we will be hosting them at The Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law offices at Russell Square.

Special thanks to Amy Reynolds, ESG Director at Higgins Partnerships for hosting us, Ruzi Bibi and Melissa Facey for organising and Richard Luiki-Mata and his fantastic team for the awesome work they do everyday supporting the students!

In October 2014, Albania initiated a comprehensive justice reform process that resulted in a thorough amendment of the Albanian constitution; the adoption of core laws regulating the organisation and functioning of the judiciary, prosecution, and justice governance institutions; and institutional transformations of the judiciary. A similar reform process was undertaken in Ukraine between 2014 and 2020.

Several aspects of the Rule of Law are at stake in the area of housing rights. Stability and clarity of the law are important when dealing with something as integral to day-to-day life as housing.

There is also a human rights dimension. Housing rights not only affect people's ability to access shelter; they directly impact access to employment and can impact children's access to education, as well as other socio-economic rights.
