✨ Thank you to everyone who joined us for the screening of "Penthesilea: Queen of the Amazons" by Laura Mulvey and Peter Wollen.

We are so grateful to the BFI fellow Laura Mulvey and film curator Georgia Korossi for the illuminating discussion that followed, exploring the film's enduring power and its lasting impact on feminist avant garde cinema.

A landmark work that explores the myth of the Amazonian woman and questions if this is a true representation of female strength or a phantasy of the male gaze. Penthesilea feels as vital and necessary today as ever.

What a joy it was to witness different generations of creative practitioners and filmmakers coming together to celebrate the legendary Laura Mulvey. An evening to remember!

📸 Thank you to everyone who joined us for the presentation of The Fumes of Mars, Katerina Angelopoulou's book investigating the 2018 Mati wildfires near Athens. The conversation between the artist and publisher Stuart Smith (GOST Books) shed light on a very dark moment in recent Greek history, highlighting survivors' testimonies and photographic evidence.

The book will be available to purchase on our website.

“I like my paintings to have one foot in the grave, to be not quite of this world. For me they exist in a dream world, a world that is made up of all the accumulated images stored in our subconscious that coagulate and mutate when we sleep.”

Join British artist Glenn Brown  and curator Iwona Blazwick, for a conversation on the method and meaning of his remarkable oeuvre, on Wednesday 27 May at the Hellenic Centre.

Followed by a drinks reception supported by

🎥 Join us for a special screening of Penthesilea: Queen of the Amazons (1974), a landmark work of feminist cinema. Made in 1974 by Laura Mulvey & Peter Wollen, Penthesilea: Queen of the Amazons is a radical, theoretically fierce reworking of Greek myth — dismantling how patriarchal culture constructs and contains women, one frame at a time.

Stay after the screening for a live Q&A with Laura Mulvey and film curator Georgia Korossi. Not one to miss!

🖼️ Join us as British artist Glenn Brown sits down with Iwona Blazwick to discuss the meaning of his work, which wanders freely through the tributaries of art history, channelling unearthly beauty or grotesque decay to depict human and non-human figures. Filtered through the Old and Modernist Masters that Brown appropriates are echoes of Greek mythology and its legacies in art and in metaphors for the subconscious.
