What does it mean to long for a land you have never known?

Borrowing its title from the German word Fernweh - a longing for distant places - this exhibition brings together 15 international artists and 17 works from the Irene Y. Panagopoulos Collection.

Through contemporary perspectives, Revisiting: Fernweh, or Nostalgia for Unknown Lands explores Greece as both a real place and an imagined landscape, where past and present meet through the act of looking.

A Different Kind of Pop: Giorgos Ioannou’s Works 1960s–1970s

To mark the centenary of Giorgos Ioannou (1926–2017), the Hellenic Centre presents the first major UK exhibition of the artist’s work.

Renowned for his bold Pop Art-inspired style, Ioannou created these powerful works during the period shaped by the Greek military dictatorship.

The exhibition explores the intersect between political identity and artistic expression of his work in one of the most turbulent periods of modern Greek history.

Join our last event before we take a break for the summer 🌞

The event will feature the screening of the documentary Mama Klorin, followed by a panel discussion centring the voices of women cleaners of Greece in the 1990s–2000s.

Speakers: Adriana Xhogu, Liljana Saliaj, Maria Michalakopoulou, Doreida Xhogu. Chair: Petros Karatsareas and Pati Vardhami and Ioanna Papapavlou, curators of the exhibition Mama Klorin.

Co-organised with the support of the University of Westminster.

Last week to see the exhibition "In Transit" at the Hellenic Centre. A sculptural dialogue shaped by the lived reality of standing between places and identities, bringing together Greek artists who have worked abroad.

What if our bodies are the maps of our life journeys? What if a simple handshake begins to unravel stories and connections?

🌎 Join us this Saturday, on World Refugee Day 2026, for “Mapping Journeys – Grounding Roots”, an original piece by theatre artist and researcher Christina Kapadocha.

This participatory performance invites audiences to reflect on migration, refuge, identity and belonging through shared stories and gentle interaction. The piece includes moments of interaction between audience and performer and among audience members. Participation is always optional and the experience is held with care.

🫧Join us for a panel discussion centring the voices of women cleaners in Greece in the 1990s–2000s. Behind each mop-stroke lie displacement and invisible labour. Doreida Xhogu's “Mama Klorin“ explores memory, migration, class and human dignity — issues that resonate across borders, generations and social divides. Here, the women cleaners speak for themselves, not as symbols, but as people with voice, memory and lived experience.

Centring Doreida Xhogu's film, initiated in 2015 as an emotional territory shaped by her and her mother's experiences as migrant cleaning workers, the conversation brings personal testimony into dialogue with art, migration and social history.

Co-organised with the support of the University of Westminster
