What do you most want eczema research to answer? We want to know.

Today we are launching the Eczema Priority Setting Partnership (PSP), a formal research process run in partnership with the James Lind Alliance that puts patients, carers and healthcare professionals in control of the research agenda.

A PSP works by gathering questions from the eczema community, the things you most want scientists and clinicians to investigate, and turning them into a prioritised list that goes directly to researchers and funders. The last Eczema PSP was over a decade ago. A lot has changed since then, and it is time to ask again.

The survey is open to everyone affected by eczema — whether you live with the condition, care for someone who does, or are a healthcare professional working with eczema patients. It takes around 10 minutes to complete.

Apogee Therapeutics, an Eczema UK corporate member, has announced encouraging results from a Phase 2 clinical trial of zumilokibart (APG777), a potential new treatment for moderate-to-severe eczema.

The trial met its primary and secondary endpoints, with 65.9% of patients treated with the mid-dose achieving EASI-75, a significant measure of skin clearance. The mid-dose was also well-tolerated, and Apogee plans to take this forward into Phase 3 trials.

If successful, zumilokibart could offer people living with moderate-to-severe eczema a more effective treatment option with a reduced injection burden compared to existing therapies.

The CUTIE Study is a research programme led by the Paediatric Dermatology team at St Thomas’ Hospital, exploring how a baby’s skin immune system, barrier and microbiome develop in the first months of life.

Following on from the first successful study, the team are investigating whether gentle baby massage, carried out at different frequencies, can help support healthy skin and immune development. They are inviting parents of healthy babies aged 0-6 months to take part in an 8-week study, which includes three visits to St Thomas’ Hospital.

At each visit, they will perform gentle, non-invasive skin assessments, including skin fluid collection, skin swabs, tape strips and skin barrier measurements. Families can receive expert baby skincare advice and free allergy testing to common allergens such as egg, milk, peanut and house dust mite. By taking part, you will be helping researchers understand how everyday baby care may support healthy skin development in early life.

If you are interested in taking part or just want to learn more, please contact the team using the email or the QR code below.

We are really pleased to share that we have joined Our Future Health, the UK's largest health research programme, as an affiliate charity and representing the millions of children and adults living with eczema in the UK.

"Programmes like this will help us find answers to what causes eczema, why it affects patients in different ways, and why varying treatments work better for some people." - Dr Charlene Murphy, Research Engagement Lead, Eczema UK.

The partnership will allow us to continue to represent our eczema community and drive forward eczema research and knowledge about the condition.

Could this new technology revolutionise eczema care?

Last week, our Experts by Experience Group heard from researchers from Heriot-Watt University who are developing a new skin sensor that could change the way eczema is assessed, diagnosed and treated.

The device is still undergoing clinical testing but early indications suggest it could perform as well as a dermatologists expert visual assessment.

There are some brilliant eczema research studies running right now and researchers are looking for people to take part.

This month we're highlighting three: a study testing a free online programme to help manage the itch-scratch cycle, a trial comparing systemic treatments and a register tracking how those treatments work long-term.

Swipe through to see what's on and whether any of them could be right for you.

Caring for a child with eczema is one of the hardest things a parent can face. 🧡

The heartbreak of seeing your child crying with painful, inflamed skin. The day-to-day grind of applying skin creams. Surviving sleepless nights. Avoiding eczema triggers. The long hours waiting at hospital appointments. Worrying what other children might say at school. The moments when they ask a question you don't quite know how to answer.

On Global Parents Day, we want every parent on this journey to know: you are doing an amazing job!

We have a dedicated section of our website for parents of children with eczema, with expert information and resources to support you and your family every step of the way.
