We’re recruiting for local governors to help shape the future of Peartree Primary School in Welwyn Garden City and ensure that every child gets the best possible education.

School governors are volunteers who work with us to improve standards in our schools. They help to ensure that every child makes good or better progress and that families are fully involved in their child’s education.

Governors contribute a range of skills and experience. The role is largely a challenge and scrutiny one; governors don’t manage a school day-to-day but are required to oversee its long-term development in conjunction with our Multi-Academy Trust.

Being a school governor is a challenging but rewarding role which really makes a difference to the lives of children and their families.

🌿 Good for mind, body and soul.
🌿 Cuts congestion around schools.
🌿 Better for our community and planet.
🌿 Builds long-term healthy habits.

Britain’s Got Talent golden buzzer act Electric Umbrella visited The Wroxham Primary School in Potters Bar to celebrate diversity and encourage children to be themselves.

The Hertfordshire band, made up of professional and learning-disabled musicians, performed and hosted interactive workshops to children aged from 3-11.

Electric Umbrella, which reached the semi-finals of BGT in 2025, delivers more than 100 live performances each year. It visits schools to educate communities about equity, diversity and inclusion, and to remind children that there’s no such thing as normal.

Nicky Easey, Headteacher at The Wroxham School, says: “The visit from Electric Umbrella was joyful from start to finish. The children were all joining in and, most importantly, learning that they are all unique and special in their own way.

“It was wonderful to see our pupils getting so involved and having the confidence to sing, dance and tell jokes alongside the band. Just like Electric Umbrella, our children celebrate and respect difference and we are extremely proud of them.”

We were delighted to welcome the Department for Education to Brimsdown Primary School this week to learn more about good practice in the school’s specialist provision.

The DfE team took a tour of Brimsdown’s Specialist Resource Provisions and Deaf Resource Base and learned about how the school is successfully supporting children with additional needs.

Brimsdown works closely with colleagues in Enfield, trialling the Russet House School Specialised Curriculum for Autistic Pupils and being supported by ECASS, via specialist provisions training and outreach. It has the borough’s only Deaf Resource Base and teaches British Sign Language to all pupils, from Nursery to Year 6. It has been praised by Ofsted for its very strong ethos of inclusion and its strong support for pupils with SEND.

The visit concluded with a discussion and Q&A for our DfE visitors, with an opportunity to share stories and impact with the local authority team. It was a fantastic visit and we hope to welcome the DfE back to Brimsdown again.
